Chapter 4

{Valentine's POV}

You know that feeling that you're sitting on the dining table and you're eyes are darting left and right then at the door, planning your grand escape? Well, let me tell you something. I can run, but I can't hide from my parents. Basically, I can just live off on my own or live with my crazy best friends, but in this case (since they're rich and oozing with popularity) people will know who I am, thus.. they will send me back to my deranged parents. Another thing that I keep wondering is why I'm always related to crazy people, if not related then I'm acquaintances with them, funny. Or not.

"Is the food not delicious, Val?" My dad asked, concerned.

"No, um, it's good..actually." I stammered, looking down at my untouched plate. I just hate the fact that I was engaged for seventeen years now and nobody bothered to tell me this.

"Then why haven't you touched your plate, dear? We can re-heat it for you if you want." My mom said.

"Oh, no. it's fine, really. I'm just not that hungry," I replied. I looked left, Hunter was there. I looked right, the door was there. As if it were calling to me. Telling me to run.

"Maybe you can get some fresh air, perhaps." Mrs. Blakewood said comfortingly.

"Um, ok." I awkwardly nodded and slowly got up.

"I'll go with her," Hunter shot up from his seat. My mom beamed happily and nodded eagerly.

I stood up smiling at the Blakewoods then turned to the door. Hunter easily caught up with me. "Why are you so caring all of a sudden, Hunter?" I hissed as soon as we were out of earshot.

"I do care about you, Val." He replied, looking hurt. There it was again. The name. Val. It rolled out of his tongue like it was meant to. It sounded like velvet caressing my skin.

"Look, Hunter." I said sharply. "They're not here anymore, so you can just drop the 'I care about you' act." I spit out bitterly.

"Can you hear yourself?" He said angrily. "I care about you more than you think."

"Then why do you bully me all the time?" I demanded.

"Because.." He trailed off.

"Because what?!" I snapped. That was no excuse to bully me! The nerve of that d-bag.

"I don't want to get hurt."

"You don't want to get hurt? How about me, did you think about my feelings?"

"I'm sorry, okay. I've  been in love with you for years now."

"What? Since when?" My jaw dropped.

"Since first day of grade school." He confessed.

"B-but.. that's impossible. You hate me, and I hate you. That's the way it should be! Hunter and Valentine would never end up like this." I said.

"I know it's a shock, but I do love you." He said.

"You can't.. you can't.. no, not now. Not ever. can't you see, Hunter? This is a marriage disaster waiting to happen. And I don't want to be humiliated because of this." I reasoned, feeling to tired.

I stumbled away from him, not thinking and hurried away from him. One news is enough for me today. I ran to my room, locking myself in. I just want to delete all the drama in my life. Why does this always have to be complicated? I groaned and buried my face into the pillow. I let darkness take over me. Come what may.

{Hunter's POV}

I looked after her tiny figure run up the stairs. Away from me. I tiredly scratched me neck in annoyance. If she didn't like the way I am, then I would only resort to one last thing to do. Change. But it was such a big word. Commitment. It almost made no sense to me. Love. As long as I can remember, I loved Valentine Harries, I do and always will.

"Hunter, where are you? We're going home, dear." My mom said.

"Coming, mom." I replied.

Time to put my game on. No more games, Blakewood. This is serious. I would make Val mine even if it was the last thing I do. Then I looked down distastefully. Man, didn't I sound girly. They were saying something I don't know about.

"Son, finally. I was just discussing to Nathan here how talented you are." In what exactly, I wanted to ask out loud. In making Val cry and run away from me? In making her hurt and reject me?

"Oh, really?" I asked, not really interested.

"Yes, and by the way.. have you seen Valentine? She left with you, didn't she?" Mr. Harries asked.

I nodded, "she left after a while. She was not really feeling well. I think she's sick or something."

Her dad clicked his tongue and then we left the Harries' estate and cruising down our estate, it was just beside theirs. How come I never noticed that? Because you're an idiot, a voice inside my head said.
