Chapter 11
"Are you even listening to me, Valentine Athena Harries?!" Farrah snapped her fingers in front of my face. I've been daydreaming all day long. And you could guess who I was daydreaming about.
I shook my head and sighed. "No, I wasn't." My mind has been flying all over all day long.
"You will never learn. You've been spacing out since you got back from your date. Speaking of which, what's up with you and Hunter lately? What happened and where did he take you?"
I laughed at her questions, it felt like middle school all over again. "We're cool, the date was awesome, and he took me to New York."
Her eyes went wide as saucers, "New York City? He brought you to friggen' NYC?! Is he for real?" She was practically jumping up and down with happiness.
"Yes, now shut up about it." I hissed, looking around us. People were looking at her like she was a jumping lunatic.
"How can you not swoon, Val?" She gave me a death glare. "He is so perfect for you. He brought you to NYC and where did you eat there?"
I smiled at the thought. "We ate at the roof top of the Empire State Building. It was so chilly and he even offered me his jacket."
If it were possible, her grin grew wider. "Empire State?! Holy shit, he knows how to spend his bucks!" That's what I had in mind, too.
"I know, he was so sweet to me all night long." I sighed dreamily. "Oh, look who's coming our way.." I groaned. Trinity bitch-troll-face.
"Hi, Valentine. How was your date with Hunter?" She chirped. My face was probably as hard as the hard wood we were standing on. How she knew these shit was beyond me.
"It was great, Trinity. Now can you leave?" I asked, pissed.
"Unless you're forgetting, I'm part of the dance team too. I can't say the same for you, Farrah. You're part of the swim team." She said airily. Why was she even in the dance team?!
"I'm not part of the DT, Trinity, but I can assure you that I'm a way better dancer than you are." Farrah snorted.
Trinity's eyes grew wide and narrowed into slits. "Really now? Let's see about that." She said some profanities and stomped off angrily.
Lou called us all in and I said my good-bye to Farrah. Whenever she usually have no swim practice, she hanged out in the DT practices. Lou announced that the Dance Mash-up was doing great and we should keep up the good work. She assigned me to make a mash-up song for the dance.
"I think we should start with a classical tune and end with a kick-ass song, right?" Alyana asked, stretching next to me. I nodded in approval.
"Everyone!" Lou shouted, "Trinity has a preposition for all of you. This one's directed to Farrah Jameson." My jaw fell down, whaaat? What did this have to do with Farrah. All eyes went to my best friend, who was munching on a bag of Doritos
"Farrah who?" She asked, looking up. "Oh shit, that's me." She cussed and threw the crumpled bag of empty Doritos. "What's your gossip now, Trinity-monster-bug Parker?" The girls laughed at that.
"Since you said that you could dance better than I do," Trinity said airily. Oh, no. "Prove it." Well, shit.~*~
"Don't sweat it too much, Farrah. It'll be next next week, we have tons of time to practice!" I said, trying to cheer her up. After Trinity's dare to her, Farrah's been angrier than she already is at Trinity.
"I can't believe I accepted! Oh my god, I'm so stupid." She groaned and buried her face into my lap. I stroked her hair with envy, her hair was so straight and it was always in the best condition.
"We can't show her mercy, Far. She's going down. And the only way of bringing her down is getting into the DT. I'm one of the judges, so I'm obviously on favour of you." I said comfortingly.
"B-but you have so many things to do! You have a dress fitting this week and we have to celebrate your eighteenth!" She burst into tears. "There's so much work to do, you can barely spare me enough time to teach me the basics. I'm nothing against Trinity! She may be evil, but she's a really good dancer. She's been in the team for three years straight!" She sobbed.
"Don't forget that I dragged you into ballet school with me back then. She can bark, but she can't bite. You're good, but a bit rusty." I carefully weighed my words. She looked up at me with hopeful eyes.
"You think so? Because I'm no dancer, Val, I'm a swimmer." She sighed. "I'm so stupid." I slapped her face.
"Listen to yourself. You were so confident and now you're crying. Over what? Trinity-monster-bug Parker? Oh, hell no!" I shook her shoulders for emphasis.
"You're right," she sniffed. "You're the best, Val. I love you!" She threw her arms around me for a hug, which I returned right away.
"When do we start?" She asked, her face full of determination.
"Now." I nodded, pulling her out of my room and into the dance studio. "This room has been vacant for some time now, and we're going to use it up. This week, we're going to work on your flexibility. Next week, is your dance number and for next next week, we're going to polish everything up."
She nodded, "let's do this."
Then it hit me. My dress fitting. Oh shit. And my birthday. Double shit.~*~
After an exhausting day, I finally threw myself on to the mess I called my bed. This week is so hectic. Not only am I going to be measured up for my dress, but also I am turning eighteen years old! Holy shit. Whenever I thought about it, it made me go crazy. Just last week, I found out I was engaged to Hunter and just last Saturday night we went to NYC. Well, my life isn't as boring as I thought it was.
"Dear, are you awake?" Mom, peered into my room.
"Yup," I replied, tiredly. "Just finished teaching Farrah ho to dance."
"Good good. It's about the dress fitting. It's tomorrow, and we have to choose a design for your dress. It will probably take the whole day, so you'll have to be absent tomorrow at school." She said.
I nodded, "fine, ok."
"Great, dear, I'm glad you're finally adjusting to your engagement. I know it's such a rush and we're kinda pressuring you into doing this, but you can tell us if you don't want to do it. We can cancel now while we can."
"No, it's fine. I'm just getting to know Hunter. I think I like him already." I murmured. I can't believe that I'm saying this.
"That's perfect then. We knew this would happen. From the day we both got our ultra-sound results!" She giddily clapped her hands. Oh my goodness. My mother can be such a teenager.
"Yeah, mom. Oh, and can we just lay off the drugs for a bit?"
She gave me a hurt look and pouted, "I am not on drugs, dear. I'm just so happy for the both of you. And we have to make a list of all the people who will be in the wedding, of course." She could never stop talking about it. It felt like she was reminding me about it every single day.
"Yes, mom. I will be right on it." I groaned.
She happily skipped, yes she skipped, out of my room. Peace, I smiled and finally some time after that, fell into deep slumber.comment
