[Hermione's POV]

The day passed in a blur as Hermione's thoughts were occupied by Malfoy's one sentence. It smells like the library. What the hell does that mean? Surely he couldn't have spent that much time in the library to become familiar with the smell. He doesn't look like the reading type, he's more of a sporty type, like Harry. Playing quidditch, everything's always about quidditch. So why on earth would it smell like the library? Why is this even bothering me. I like Ron, we kissed even though we haven't talked about it ever since argh!!! Hermione dropped her bag to the floor and flopped down on her bed in exhaustion. Bloody hell, she was exhausted.

"Hey, you okay?" She opened her eyes to find Ginny looking down at her with a worried expression etched upon her face.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she sat up and rubbed her eyes, "Just tired that's all."

"Did Head Girl duty get the best of you?" She laughed as she sat down next to her.

"Haha," she laughed weakly, "You know it's really nothing once I've come to think about it."

Ginny raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything, "How about we go out to Hogsmeade? A few mugs of butterbeer might cheer you up."

Hermione smiled, grateful for her friend, "Yeah thanks. Just let me get changed." She had changed into jeans and a t-shirt, picking a light beige coat to go with the autumn wind. Meanwhile Ginny had changed into black leggings and a red, oversized hoodie. "Ready?"

Ginny nodded and the girls headed out.

[Hogsmeade]

The two girls found a seat inside The Three Broomsticks and Hermione ordered them two mugs of butterbeer. She took a sip, letting the sweet butterscotch taste warm her up from the cold outside. It almost made her forget about her problems, almost. Ginny gave a small cough, "I've been meaning to ask you this for a while - how are things between you and Ron?" Even the question alone gave a little pang in her heart. "I know what happened Hermione, and I know my brother. He and his feelings, sometimes they just don't seem to work with each other."

Hermione sighed, "I don't know, I mean, whenever I try to bring it up, he kind of just brushes it away. Like, did he mean it? Or was it like the 'heat of the moment' kinda thing?" She took a gulp of butterbeer, "I know it wasn't my first kiss or anything -"

"Yeah, cause that was with the most famous quidditch player in the world but go on." Ginny smiled innocently as Hermione rolled her eyes.

"But I've know him since our first year and he's my best friend so it has to mean something, right?" Hermione was so desperate for the kiss to mean something, Ron wasn't the kind of person to do something like that without actual feelings, "Look Gin, I don't really wanna talk about it right -"

"Well, well if it isn't Granger and Weaslette," a familiar voice sneered at her from behind. Great, one problem gone, and the next one jumps right in. He was wearing a black trenchcoat with a grey shirt underneath. "Second night back and you're already out drinking."

"What do you want, Malfoy?"

"Who says I want anything?" Hermione narrows her eyes at him, what the hell is he doing? "I mean, unless you want me to..." He smirked as Hermione flushed red from both rage and embarrassment.

"That is disgusting - how dare you, you little bast-"

"Language Granger, you're Head Girl aren't you?"

She sighed, "Speaking of which, we need to do the report for Mcgonagall. Meet me in the Head's dorm tomorrow, at seven. Don't be late."

"Wait, there's a Head's dorm?"

"Yes genius, there is a Head's dorm." Ginny piped up looking rather amused at their bickering, "Yeah I'm still here Malfoy, so try to keep the flirting to a minimum."

Malfoy turned red and Hermione couldn't help but let out a laugh as she high-fived her friend, "7pm sharp."

"Yeah, yeah whatever." The blonde haired boy walked out sheepishly.

They finished off their drinks and headed back to Hogwarts narrowly missing curfew. The corridors were silent as most of the students were probably already asleep. Was Malfoy flirting with me? No, that's not possible. He's hated me all his life, why would he like me now and besides isn't he already with Pansy? Hermione lost herself in her own train of thoughts, battling with herself whether Malfoy liked her or not. Did she want him to like her? Maybe. Does she like him? She didn't know. "ARGH! WHY DO I EVEN CARE?!" She shouted as she buried her head into her pillow surprising Ginny with her sudden outburst.

"Care about..."

"Whether Malfoy was flirting with me or not." She mumbled, I can't believe those words just left my mouth.

Ginny looked at her like she had horns sticking out of her head, "Hermione calm down! I didn't mean it seriously or anything."

"I know but -" should she tell Ginny about the Amortentia? If she did then she'll have to tell her the whole thing, "Remember the Amortentia this morning in potions? Well it couldn't have been a coincidence that Malfoy smelled the library right? And I smelt spearmint, I mean I was standing right there and the smell was so strong it was almost like it was coming from him!"

"Okay okay, calm down. Look, maybe you're just tired and all this Ron and Malfoy business isn't helping. You should get some rest."

Hermione finally gave in and took her friend's advice and fell asleep.

[The next day]

Hermione ate her breakfast with a her Transfiguration book propped up against a jug of pumpkin juice. Seventh years' transfiguration was particularly difficult. They were learning about Animangi (a/n idk what the plural of Animangus is, it's Animangi for my story). She furrowed her brows in absolute concentration as she tried to remember the procedure to becoming an Animangus.

She turned around when she felt a tap on her shoulder, "Malfoy?"

"I can't meet you today at the Head's dorm,"

"And why not?" She looked at him in annoyance, they only have a couple of days left until they had to hand it into Mcgonagall.

"Quidditch practise."

You're joking! Ohhh I am so done with quidditch. "Malfoy, you are the captain of your Quidditch team, and you just happen to schedule it on the day I asked to meet you?"

"And today's the Gryffindor's turn for practise, by the way." Ginny pointed out. "Come on Malfoy, that was a pathetic excuse, especially for a Slytherin."

Malfoy grumbled and walked back in frustration. Was he avoiding her? The two girls finished off their breakfast and headed off to class.

Hey guys!

I felt like this was a bit of a filler chapter, but I promise the next one will be better. And in the next chapter, there might some dramione action :)))))
