[Draco's POV]
Draco thanked and paid the taxi driver as he stepped out onto Hermione's porch. He smoothed his suit, straightened his tie and walked up to their door. It had been years since he had last met up with her parents and he knew that he shouldn't, but his was just as nervous as he was the first time. The time they had spent away from each other was like starting over again but then it wasn't. Sure it was going to be awkward just showing up at their doorstep again after five or so years, but it was the right thing to do if it was planning to live out the rest of his life with her. With jittery nerves running through him, he raised his hand to knock on the door -
BANG!
Out of instinct, Draco ducked down raised his arms to cover his head. "The fuck..." he cursed to himself as he heard something else break. Completely abandoning the intention to knock on the door he pushed forward to find something he had never expected. He had know Astoria since first year and got to know her bit more during his fifth and sixth and he knew, he just knew that the Astoria that was shooting a violent streams of curses and jinxes at Hermione wasn't the Astoria that had once been his wife and Hermione who as brilliant of a witch as she was, was having a hard time blocking them.
"Stop!" He screamed at them but no one seemed to listen to him, "STOP!"
Hermione whipped around, "Draco?" she whispered but he could only read her lips. That split second loss of attention was exactly was Astoria needed, shooting a stunning spell that knocked Hermione into the wall and a trickled of blood appeared on the side of her head, reddening her light brown hair.
No.
Draco rushed forward and placed to fingers on her neck and sighed with relief when he felt pulse beneath his finger tips.
"Astoria stop, please." He begged her, it was the only thing he could do right now without risking either of their lives. What happened to her. No, this can't be her.
"Why?" She waved her wand around and pointed at Hermione. "Let me finish this off and we could go back to the way we were."
"No," he moved into front of Hermione who was still unconscious, "You broke this up with me, remember? You made the choice and you just can't come back and try to take that back again because we'll never be the same. Especially not now."
"Fine. I don't love you anymore, Draco. I don't love anyone. I didn't come here to get you back although I'll admit that that'd be nice as well. I came to finish my business with her."
"What business?"
"Not your business. Get out of the way, Draco."
"No." Draco stood up and pointed his wand at his former wife, "Please Astoria, just leave. Hermione, I'm sure whatever unfinished business you have with her can be left un-dealt with."
"But I'm sure it can't."
"Then I'm sorry," Draco flicked his wand and shot a stunning spell at her but she blocked it and shot one right back. Former husband and wife duelled, each person matching the other. He pressed on, trying to knock her out or disarm her at least. But he couldn't. He had duelled with Astoria before in their defence against the dark arts classes and he knew that her style wasn't lethal. She had never been much of a dueller but more of a potions kind of person and she had always been great with animals.
Animals. Bloody chicken tore my arm open.
The Astoria that he was fighting now was strong. He could see it in with every spell she shot but none of them were actually aimed, they seem to be going for the wall behind him. It was a style of duelling that he was familiar with, a style that used rage and anger as its fuel, a style that he had gotten used to over the years at Hogwarts. It was a style that he had fought before but he just couldn't place a finger on it.
But he knew that it wasn't Astoria.
The fighting style didn't match the face of his opponent but he knew how to beat her. Draco shot a spell at her feet, causing her to leap back and a stunning spell to the chest, knocking her out.
Puffed, Draco rushed over to Hermione who was sitting up against the wall. "Hey, are you okay?" He lifted her hand away from her head to find it sticky with blood, "Shit, you're bleeding. Stay still." He pulled out his wand and healed the wound on her head.
"Draco?"
"I'm here, I won't go anywhere."
"My parents," she said, she voice hoarse and cracked. "They're still unconscious." She tried to stand up and Draco gently pushed her back down.
"I'll get them."
"No. I need to modify their memories, that wasn't Astoria and you know it."
"I know, come on." He helped her up onto her feet and they walked over to her parents.
Hermione pointed her wand at them and closed her eyes, "Obliviate." Draco watched as she drew away silver wisps from their head, each one containing a dreadful memory that they need not remember. Hermione sighed and rubbed her temples, "The mess. How in the world am I supposed to clean it up? Oh my parents are going to kill me."
"Hey hey hey," he put his hands on her shoulder, "You're a witch remember? We'll have everything fixed in no time."
Hermione nodded, slightly dazed, "Okay."
They fixed up the house and Draco apparated 'Astoria' away to her apartment just as Hermione's parents were starting to regain consciousness, restoring everything to the way it was before spells started going off.
"I should go," Draco said and kissed her, patting his pocket to make sure it was still there. "I don't want them to see me like this."
"Okay, but why were you here in the first place? I mean, not that I'm not grateful for it." She shrugged and gave a sheepish smile.
"I was thinking of inviting your parents over to dinner again, you know, now that we're back together and all."
"Then stay. I'm sure they'd love to have you over and I'm cooking tonight, I'm thinking of fried rice and ordering some papaya salad from the Thai restaurant."
"I can't just show up uninvited." He said frowning.
"It's not like you haven't before, I mean, you never really seemed to have a problem with just randomly apparating into my room." She pointed out.
Draco flushed but he couldn't deny it. "Alright, I'll stay."
"Great!" She turned to her mum, "Mum, you're awake! Remember Draco? He was my boyfriend at Hogwarts..."
Draco drowned himself in her voice as she introduced him to her parents again. He wasn't nervous about meeting them, no, they're great people. Super easy to talk to. But he still felt like the butterflies in his stomach had suddenly turned carnivorous, gnawing at him as his fingers fiddled with a small black velvet box in his suit pocket.
