Mary Sues are never relatable, you know why?
They have everyone (except the evil protagonist) worship them and yet, they are completely ignorant about this.
That's one thing about their personality: They're ignorant.
Let's not forget that they're clumsy.
For some reason, they are always the nerds of the school, and since they are ignorant they really don't know how others feel about them even if it slaps them. Like this:
I'm walking down the hall way, people stare at me. I bet they're thinking how dumb and ugly I am. Then suddenly I drop to the floor! I drop my books! but Gary Stu doesn't let me fall. Gary Stu picks up my books and smiles at me. And Evil Protagonist laughs and he scowls at her. Oh no! He must be thinking how dumb I am. So I walk out. I bet he's laughing at me along with Evil Protagonist about me and my clumsiness...
I'm getting so sick of them being so ignorant and clumsy -_-
Let's not forget this:
I look at myself in the mirror. My emerald green/sky blue/ ice grey/ heterochromia eyes shine. My blonde/ brown hair is shiny and clean. My curly/wavy hair goes up the hips. I'm so skinny! Ugh I hate myself so much! I'm so ugly!
I'm not even sure if this is...
a) Ignorance
b) InsecurityBut then we find out it's ignorance.
Seriously, just make your character with a huge ego. Or make them with social anxiety. Or, I don't know, make them have claustrophobia. (I only seen one book where the the bad boy had claustrophobia! One book!) Or made them think they're God-like (Oh God, the Death Note reference xD). It wouldn't hurt giving them flaws, it would be relatable and people wouldn't have to be constantly be annoyed about a Mary Sue!
