memories

chapter one

I open my eyes and realize my alarm didn't go and I woke to my step dad Oliver pounding on the door, yelling at me.

I jump out of bed and hurriedly got dressed and brushed my hair. As soon as I open the door I feel his hand as he slaps me.

It stings but then he punches my side and I forget about my cheek as I focus on my side. I fall to the ground and he kicks me a few times.

Then he takes his knife and slices my cheek but not deep but enough to draw blood.

" Where is breakfast? You are a slow child. I should have never had you!" My mother, Jenelle says.

"I-I w-woke u-up l-late." I tell her. Oliver kicks me again.

"Stand up and get ready for school, pathetic child." Oliver says.

I just nod and they both walk out and I shut the door after them.

Well this is my life. Nothing I can do about it now. I get ready and put makeup on to hide the bruises and cut on my face. I'm sorry, my fault I need to introduce myself I am Zayla Vantad and this is my story,

I climb out the window and sneak away from the house. After a mile or two away from the house I pull my backpack off and check my bag:

school supplies ✔

Computer✔

Money in case something comes up✔

Change of clothes for emergencies✔.

Okay good. I close it back up and head to school.

As soon as enter the school grounds Joy and her clash of friends start on me.

" Oh look it's the pathetic nerd."

" She's not even cute. She doesn't stand a chance against us."

" Yep. That's true."

I ignore them and get to the library. An eighteen year old no friends who hides out in the library for the rest of her senior year. Fun right?

Many are like eww gross it's the library but I'm like yes heaven. I love to read. If I could I would have a tattoo of book.

I head to my corner after nodding hello to the librarian. I sigh and sit down and pull some new homework that I do ahead of time.

I love to work ahead of the teacher considering I don't have any friends. I'm about halfway through 'Amnesia' when I hear Valentino and his friends the twins Maxwell and Maddox, they are the bad boys of our school, enter.

Way to tell is their loud mouths and the librarian telling them to be quiet. Just ignore them and go back to my book.

After a while I hear them coming my way so I turtle into my hoodie and try to ignore them.

First Maddox comes up ,"Hey guys it's the class nerd." he says.

Maxwell comes up laughing at what he said and Valentino said, "Dude really?"

Out of the corner of my eye Maddox nods and then joins in on laughing with Maxwell.

The librarian comes over and pulls them by the ear and kick them out.

I hear a deep chuckle. "Sorry about them. I can't control them or anything they say. So I just roll with whatever they say or do."

"I-is t-that w-why y-you a-always g-get i-in t-trouble?" I ask.

He nods,"yes but I always wish I don't."

I nod and continue to read my book. "There's a reason why I'm here though." he says.
