As Paige served customers, she continued to glance at Lisa who was still sat in the same place drinking her third coffee...She was going to be up at night tonight.
Lisa stood up as she saw people looking at her, giving her looks of pity. She opened her purse and pulled out a ten dollar note and put it under her mug before walking out of the coffee shop.
She hated how everyone looked at her, she didn't want them to pity her. She wanted them to hate her because it was her fault her family died but nobody sees it that way. She sighed as she walked down the street, back to her apartment where she would just lay in bed and let time slip away before two PM, this was the time she would go to visit Lauren every day.
Paige walked towards the table Lisa was sat at and picked up the ten dollar note and shook her head before slipping it in her pocket. She would be sure to give it back when she saw her again.
As she picked up the coffee mug, her eyes landed on something on the chair.
She picked it up and her eyes widened. She sat the coffee mug back on the table and ran to the back to get her jacket.
"AUNT VIV, I'M TAKING MY BREAK NOW!" She shouted before running out of the shop, not waiting for a reply.
She managed to see Lisa turning a corner so she ran after her, keeping a tight grip on the picture in her hand.
"Lisa!" She called out.
She slowed her pace as Lisa stopped but groaned when she realised she had stopped to check the road before crossing the street.
Paige shouted her name again but Lisa carried on walking and Paige cursed under her breath as she watched Lisa enter an apartment building.
She ran after her but stopped outside when she realised she couldn't get in without entering a key or without buzzing an apartment.
So she decided to wait a few minutes and caught her breath.
Lisa walked inside the elevator and pressed the button to her floor. As she traveled up, she reached into her back pocket but as realization hit her, that the object she wanted wasn't there she began to panic.
"No." She whispered and searched through her other pockets. "No." She repeated as tears filled her eyes.
The elevator dinged and she rushed out and quickly walked to her home. She unlocked the door and slammed it shut.
Suddenly, she heard buzzing and turned around to face the phone attatched to the wall, that allowed her to speak to whoever wanted to come in.
She was confused as nobody ever buzzed for her so she hesitated to answer, but when it buzzed again she quickly picked up the phone.
"What?" She hissed.
"Uh..Hi..Lisa. It's Paige from the coffee shop, can you let me in please?"
Lisa bit her lip and was about to just hang up but Paige stopped her.
"I know you don't wanna talk and that's fine, but it's important."
She sighed and shook her head. "Third floor, apartment 32." Lisa then pressed the button that opened the front door and hung up.
She paced the room and as she heard knocking on the door, she quickly opened it and glared daggers at Paige.
"What do you want?"
"I came to bring you this." Paige flicked up the picture and held it between her two fingers and held it out for Lisa. "Oh, and you can have this too." She said taking out the ten dollars.
Lisa snatched the picture from Paige and continued to glare at her. "YOU DON'T TOUCH THIS! YOU DON'T EVER IN A MILLION YEARS TOUCH IT!" She yelled.
Paige's jaw dropped at the way Lisa reacted, she thought she would have been happy and relieved. A thank you wouldn't cost a thing.
"I'm sorry?"
"Don't touch this picture again. It doesn't belong to you."
"I was trying to help. I brought it back to you." Paige started to feel annoyed and she was about to lose it.
"I don't need your help! I don't need anyone's help."
"Would you rather I just left it there?! Because judging how you had it with you it must seem pretty important to you."
"You had no right coming here."
"I had every right. That right there." Paige pointed to the picture. "That's a picture of you and your family. If my family died and I lost their picture I would hope somebody would find it and bring it back to me. I don't know who you've encountered before and they left you alone, but I won't. You lose it again I will bring it back to you if I find it."
"Don't talk about my family." Lisa growled pushing Paige backwards.
Paige threw her arms up in the air and shook her head. "Fuck you Lisa. I was only trying to help."
"I told you I don't need anybody's help."
"Whatever. You got your picture back." Paige realised she still had the money. "And this too." She threw the money to the ground. "Next time I see the picture if you lose it, I won't bother next time. See how you feel without it."
Paige turned around and began to walk away. "Bitch." She mumbled under her breath as she walked to the elevator.
Lisa closed the door and leaned her back against it.
Why am I such a bitch?
