Dipper P.O.V

Apparently working the cash register in the gift shop was not an option, it was a demand. I've been in Gravity Falls for all of two days and I already want to leave. Working was not on my list of things to do over the summer.

I sigh and lean against the counter. "This will get better, Dipper. There's no one around. You could just leave and go on a wild adventure," I tell myself, seeing as no one was around.

I realize that doing something like that sounds much more fun than just staying inside. It's honestly a lot better to almost die than sit here and do nothing.

I look around and see that no one is around for what seems like miles. I think about leaving. No one is going to be here to punish me. Grunkle Stan is most likely eating or sleeping.

I get up and leave the building, closing the back door quietly. I walk around town for a while, greeting those I recognize from previous summers. There isn't exactly much to do in town, but there's always more to do in the woods.

I walk to the edge of town and look at the forest. It looks like any other forest. There's not much else I can really say.

I walk in through an opening and look around. It seems like the typical forest that you could find anywhere, but it is far more interesting than that.

'At least this is something that is actually worth exploring. Perhaps I'll find something interesting that Grunkle Stan will like. Maybe then I won't have to stay in anymore, he'll let me gallivant to find oddities.'

I sigh and look around. The weather is nice today. It's not too hot and it's not too cold; it's a nice temperature to be out in. I like it much more than the hot weather back home in California.

Small rustles fill the breeze that carries their sound. Squirrels and rabbits are the cute little culprits. I see squirrels hop from tree to tree and rabbits scurry to hide. The forest has a lot of life.

I sit down under one of the larger trees and take out one of the books I brought with me this summer. I'm almost done with it, but Grunkle Stan has been trying to get me to do all his work. That's not what I'm visiting for.

'The worst part is that he has no intentions of paying me. If I wanted to spend my summer working I at least want to get paid.'

I open the book to my last stopping point and continue reading. It sounded a little cheesy when I first picked it up at the bookstore, but when I read the back of it I figured I would like it.

It's about two young men from wealthy families. Both are expected to become successful and own large companies, but that isn't what either of them wants. In reality, they only want each other. Their families, however, would never allow this. They are forced to leave their homes and start new lives on their own for their only chance at happiness. It's a very good story.

I sit under the tree and read until I have finished the book. I only killed an hour, so there's still a lot of time left. There is a lot to explore and I have all summer. Today is just the start.
