Astronomy Tower Part Two

{ No-no Stop!"
You exclaim and rush towards him,
but it's too late.
You watch in anguish as Draco Malfoy's lean figure disappears over the edge and into the night. }

Part 2

Your eyes are tightly shut as you stumble toward the edge of the Astronomy Tower. After a few seconds you force yourself to look over the edge. You gasp.
Draco Malfoy is floating right above the stone
ground- immobilized.
You realize that you must've cast a silent spell when he jumped off.
You quickly pull out your wand.

"Accio Draco."

His figure moves upwards towards the edge and onto the Tower's floor. You breathe a sigh of relief and rush over to him. Draco lies there unconscious. You gently move his head,
"Draco-Draco, can you hear me?"
You ask.

The Malfoy groans and moves his head ever so slightly. You place your hand on the side of his face. "Please be okay." You think to yourself.
All of a sudden, his silver eyes open wide. He stares up at you with frightened and sad expression. Draco starts to sit up, but you lay him back down.

"You need to lie still Draco." You explain.
He slowly turns his head to the side. The sky is now almost completely dark.

"Lumos."
You say, and your wand's light fills up the room. You look back down at the Slytherin, not knowing what words to say. After a few minutes of silence, Draco turns his head towards you and asks solemnly,

"Why did you help me?"

A million thoughts rush through your mind, but you can't think of anything to say. You didn't want to have to see what took place in the tower that evening, you were just there.

"Um, well I couldn't just let you die..could I?
I mean-no one should ever even consider jumping off the Astronomy Tower. No one should have that much pain inside of them that it drives them to do- to do that to themselves... But you did, so I guess something inside of me told me I had to save you." You reply.

He closes his eyes,
"I'm a pathetic excuse for a person."

"No You're not Draco, I can see that you care. And I'm sure that whatever 'terrible things' you think you've done are not so bad." You reply.

He shakes his head and lets out a hollow laugh,
"You don't know who I am or what I've done. Because if you did, you would've let me die. I'm a poison, a poison being used to destroy everything that is good in our world."

"A poison? I don't understand." You say in a confused tone.

Draco breathes in deeply and then moves his hand slowly towards his sleeve. He shoves the white material up in one quick motion to reveal a pulsating mark. The Dark Mark gleams in shades of grey and black. You gasp and instinctively shrink away from it. Draco watches your reaction closely.

"Before you make assumptions, just know that I didn't choose to follow the Dark Lord. The Dark Mark was forced upon me. I can't do anything about it except to follow my orders." Draco says.

The Mark mesmerizes you and after a couple minutes of staring you lean in towards it. You slowly reach over to his arm and run your fingers across the mark. Draco's pale skin shivers under your touch. After a minute you look up at him.

"Promise me you won't try and hurt yourself again. Even if you're being forced to do some terrible deed. You don't deserve pain or death Draco.
So promise me." Your soft voice whispers.

Both of your gazes lock together and His eyes run up and down your face. He starts to say something then stops and turns away. You reach out and touch his pale hair.

"Promise me."

His silver eyes look back up at you and then down at his mark. Finally he slowly sits up. He then pulls down his sleeve, covering his Dark Mark.
Draco looks back at you, as your two faces grow closer together. The light from your wand shines over the shadows in his face. Then the Slytherin whispers,

"Okay, I promise."

As he closes the gap between your lips and pulls you into a loving embrace.
