The trailer begins with Bill Denbrough making his younger brother George a paper boat. Somber piano music is playing. He intricately folds the paper as logos begin to appear.

He continues to fold it, clearly taking his time and making sure it's perfect.

He takes an ink pen and gives the boat a name, the S.S Georgie. "There ya go," He hands the paper boat to his younger brother. "She's all ready, captain." He smiles as little Georgie takes his new boat. "Thanks Billy." The little boy gives his older brother a loving hug, the last hug he'd ever give his brother.

We cut to Georgie in his yellow raincoat, running out onto the Derry street as a rainstorm is occurring. He lets the boat, coated in parafin wax to keep it waterproof, go and runs after it as it floats on top of the stream going down his neighbourhood street.
Running in a zig zag formation, the little paper boat never slows down and Georgie tries his very best to keep up with it.

What he doesn't notice however is the bright orange 'Derry Public Works' street barrier. Poor Georgie bangs his head right into it and loses track of his paper boat. He cries out, "No!". Before he can catch up to it again, it falls down a gutter. He tries to see if it's not too late but alas his boat is gone. He's left kneeling on the concrete street, peering into nothing but darkness.

But then a clown appears in the shadows.

"Derry is not like any town I've been in before. People die or disappear, six times the national average. And that's just grown ups. Kids are worse. Way, way worse."

Cut to four boys, our losers, cycling down the street of Derry. Next shot is of the Losers' nemesis Henry Bowers leaning against his car with his friends, Belch Huggins and Victor Criss. Henry looks to be sad, perhaps mourning the disappearance of Patrick Hockstetter, who's missing poster is stuck up on a street pole after we're reminded of the 7pm curfew.

A young girl, Lizzy Dwyer is sitting on the porch of her home wrapped in a blanket. Her pink tulle skirted formal dress is ripped and bloody and her slightly long wavy brown hair is a contrast to how we see her later in the teaser. She has a bandage on her arm hinting to us she's been to hospital and her heavily smudged eyeliner shows she's been crying. She is joined by her older sister Debbie Dwyer and softly lays her head on her shoulder as she weeps.
