SEPTEMBER
They were casually sitting around in the field in front of the Kissing Bridge. The kids felt peaceful for once in a very long time.
Lizzy's head was resting on Richie's shoulder, his arms wrapped around her lovingly. Since they'd defeated that monster, it'd only brought them even closer. The birds chirped as they aimlessly talked about stuff, a final moment of peace in what seemed forever.
Until the topic of Beverly being caught up in what they liked to refer to as the 'Deadlights'. They circled around her like children about to listen to a storytime."I can only remember bits but, I thought I was dead. That's what it felt like." She admitted, she hadn't really spoken about it to anyone - not even Lizzy.
Liz glanced at Stan, his head was wrapped in bandages due to the deep bites Judith - the woman from the painting - had left. He didn't speak about it, but she knew how deeply it traumatised him. Perhaps even to a point of no return.
Beverly began to continue, "I saw us, all of us together in the cistern. But we were older - like our parents ages."
"Am I still as handsome as an adult?" He pulled a funny face, getting a few laughs and a light nudge from Lizzy. "You grow into your looks," Bev says with a smile, meaning for it to be a compliment but coming off more backhanded. He turned to Liz while smirking, "What the fuck does that mean?" A louder chorus of laughs emitted from the group. His girlfriend simply pinched his cheek and said, "I think you're cute as a button just as you are right now." Which in turn swapped out their friends laughs for playful groans and ews and a "She's lying to you" coming from Stan. Of course, this only make Richie and Liz flash a middle finger in his direction in unison, getting a chuckle from the curly haired boy. "What about me?" Stan smiled, unaware that he'd been the only member of the group she hadn't seen.
"Uh, like now. But taller." A hesitant smile grew on the ginger's face, Lizzy's brows furrowed despite Stan's grin. Something was wrong, but she didn't want to question it.
Eddie was staring at her, deeply concerned but never vocalising it. Since the last encounter with IT, he'd stopped taken his gazebo medicine. It was all just bullshit.
"W-w-what were we all doing there?" Bill curiously asked beside her, gazing with curious eyes.
She seemed to be lost for words for a moment. "I just remember how we felt. How scared we were. I don't think I can ever forget that." Beverly briefly glanced at Lizzy who had a comforting look about her. Her best friend was leaving Derry tomorrow and probably never coming back.
And that broke her.
They'd spent the night weeping into each other's arms. Promising they'd keep in touch.
