Chapter 9- J
"You cannot be serious!" I exclaimed. "Alex would never do that" I objected obtusely.
"I'm not lying! Ben told me this morning, he was there and he saw everything!" Dom replied enjoying my reaction.
"So he walked in on her...?" I said disbelievingly. He nodded and rolled his eyes at me. I frowned slightly in disgust before adding:
"Thanks Dom, now I won't be able to look her in the eye on Monday" He laughed, though it was true. Alex had always seemed so innocent to me, not at all interested in boys. Which is why it seemed even more distasteful to me that she would get butt naked in the bedroom of her friend. Yes, butt naked.
"So are you ready to tell me what's wrong with you and Mel?" I raised one eyebrow. His face sobered at once, giving him the look of a rabbit in the headlights. I touched his arm soothingly.
"There's nothing wrong-" he began. I spoke over him: "Don't give me that bullshit, spit it out" I said in a low voice.
"I, uh" He hesitated, conflicted. I raised my eyebrows at him dangerously, prompting him to continue.
"Let's just say it's not me with the problem Mad" he smiled sadly and I almost felt sorry for interrogating him. Almost.
"Look, I know she's been distant Dom, but what do you expect? Greg only died a couple of months ago. She's been the same with me." I confessed quietly. For some reason Dom looked even more uncomfortable at my words.
"I know, it's not really about....." he drifted off, looking upset.
"Dom, whatever it is. I'm sure you two can get over it, you should talk to her about it" I suggested.
"What right now?" Dom muttered, back to his old self.
"Yes right now get your coat" I replied smiling. "Of course not now, but tomorrow maybe?" I added seriously, hoping I wasn't pushing it.
"Alright! I'll talk to her tomorrow, can we please talk about something else?" He agreed hotly and I knew not to push him any further. Any further and he would stop listening me. Boys.
"Good" I grinned like a Cheshire cat. First step towards being back to normal completed. My life had enough complication without my two best friends barely speaking to each other. Dom's phone beeped, his fingers moved deftly over the touch screen to open the message. Unfortunately, he was drinking his Coke using his other hand and subsequently choked when he saw the message. The Coke sprayed everywhere and I couldn't help but crack up at the look on his face. His eyes were practically popping out they were so wide. He was shaking his head at me, chuckling before he shoved the image in my face.
I felt my eyes widening as the image of Alex blurry eyed, stark naked and shielding herself and her companion from the camera burned into my skull. Not that the image was that bad, in fact she was pretty blessed in certain areas if you asked me, but seeing someone you saw at school everyday with that little clothing on, wasn't something I was going to forget in a heartbeat. I resisted the urge to fling the phone across the room and realized the image was from Ben. I looked at the image more closely. Their um... sensitive areas were caught in sharp relief, but the faces were slightly blurred. Who was the boy with her? Before Dom could snatch it back off me, I started to type a reply.
Dom made a grab for the phone, I got up from my bed and ran towards the door laughing my head off. Feeling his approach behind me I ran downstairs, trying to quicken my pace to not lose my head start. Dom, though was much faster than me and I had barely reached the bottom of the stairs when he tackled me to the ground. He pinned me down and prised the phone from my hands, without too much effort on his part (but a lot on mine). For a moment, we were laughing too much to notice that we weren't alone in the room. Mum and Dad were looking at us with clear bemusement on my face, clearly waiting for an explanation. Too bad I wasn't in the mood to explain.
