Chapter 10- Party time part 1
The looks I got off people for the rest of the week had made me irritable at first, but that had faded quickly to acceptance, with a slight tinge of indignation. I hadn't actually done anything- they were all just assuming I was the one playing Tom, when I hadn't even encouraged his flirting. 'Apart from inviting him over, kissing him, flirting with him' the voice in my head piped up sarcastically. Well okay, maybe a little, but I couldn't resist him.
A part of me softened that he wanted to show he liked me, no matter what everyone thought. Which was the exact opposite of his friend, who hadn't even spoken to me at school, Tom was actively seeking me out. So I couldn't help but warm to him. He didn't care about what other people thought, if he liked me, he liked me and I could not help but admire him for it. I just wished more people were like that, including myself.
Of course my friends were finding it hilarious the amount of attention I was getting because of a simple kiss on the cheek. For example, right now Dean had his hand on my head and was using me to push through the crowd, which unfortunately parted like the red sea when they saw who it was. Idiots.
"Maddy Reynolds coming through" Dean shouted happily and I replied with a glare. He was really taking advantage of my new found infamy. He ignored me and went on:
"Yep you heard me. Tom Winters girlfriend" Dean smirked, gritting my teeth I told myself not to rise to it. Then I caught Dom laughing as well and I snapped.
"I am not his girlfriend Dean and you can shut up too Dom!" I shouted at them, receiving laughs from both. This was not funny, I mean I wouldn't mind if me and Tom were even together, but we weren't. He only wanted me for sex and I was never agreeing to that sort of relationship again.
"No need to get defensive Mad, we're sorry aren't we Dean?" Dom said. I looked at Dean expectantly, knowing that he didn't feel any remorse, and was unsurprised to see him rolling his eyes. I punched him in the arm. Hard. He gave a satisfying yelp of surprise.
"Very sorry" Dean snarled through his teeth. I smiled sweetly, Dom chuckled quietly at my violent behaviour, not at all fazed. Used to it I guess.
"I thought so" I returned smugly. Dom slung an arm around my shoulder as we walked towards the cafeteria, the shaky feeling I'd been feeling since the start of the day seemed to fade slightly at the contact.
As Dom went to sit down, that left just me and Dean to line up for food. He remained silent and I knew he was still pissed off from earlier. Well, that would serve him right.
"Dean you know I was only joking earlier right? It's just that everyone's assuming everything. Me and Tom aren't even seeing each other, you know I don't want anyone right now" my voice trailed off towards the end, afraid I was giving too much away, but if I wanted Dean to understand then I would have to tell him some of the truth.
"Oh, well-" Dean broke off looking uncomfortable and surprised at my apology: I never apologized. "You're apologizing to me?" he exclaimed. I rolled my eyes and nodded. He was going to make a big deal out of it, I just knew it.
"But I was the one being a dick!" he chirped, looking pleased. Don't make me regret it Dean.
"I'm tempted to take it back now!" I groaned swatting his chest playfully. He grinned and I struggled to keep my expression neutral. I had a feeling he wasn't going to let me forget that one in a hurry. We collected our food, Dean carrying a portion the size of Africa, and proceeded to the lunch table.
"See you later tonight Maddy?" Joe asked and the lack of enthusiasm must have shown clearly on my face because Dean shot to corner me:
"Pick you up at 7ish Maddy" I was stumped now, not really wanting to go at all now, especially if Tom was going to be there.
