*Peggy's POV*
As I sat on the bathroom floor, I realized I still didn't change into my yellow clothes.
I dried my eyes and got changed. After I got changed, I tried to think of my story. I knew that my family was at the front desk. They most likely called my teacher.
Got it.
I could say I was in the dance room in the basement. The speaker hardly works down there.
Yeah! Okay.
I looked in the mirror before I walked out of the bathroom, making sure my eyes weren't too puffy.
I took a deep breath and walked to the front desk where I was reunited with my sisters and parents.
"Peggy! Thank goodness! Oh my god. Are you okay?" My mother asked as she rushed up to me.
I smiled slightly.
Wow, this is most she's talked to me in a while.
I nodded "yeah, I'm fine mom. I'm fine." I said and looked at her.
She pulled me into a tight hug and stroked my hair. I smiled and hugged her.
"Where the hell were you?" My dad asked, I sighed and took a deep breath, he was always so harsh with me.
"I-I I was in the dance room. I didn't hear the lockdown announcement. The speakers don't work well." I said, looking down at my feet.
"Unacceptable! You can't be skipping class, Margarita!" He snapped at me.
Eliza looked from him to me, and back at him. "Peggy. Her name is Peggy. And please don't yell, dad. It's the holidays. Peggy is right, the speakers suck in the basement." Eliza said
As we made our way out of the school, I could see my dad shaking his head. "It's still not okay to skip class." He mumbled.
I couldn't take it anymore, Maria was booming in my head, and I couldn't keep her quiet.
"Well, you dont know what it's like! Okay?! You don't get it! I'm not Angelica! I'm not Eliza! God damnit, not even Peggy! I'm never gonna be like any of them! It's awful! Okay! School is hard! Being a member of this family is hard! I just can't do it anymore! We can't do it! We're done! I'm done! School is a struggle! I don't fit in! She doesn't fit in! Just stop being so hard on me!"
The car fell silent. My mom and my sisters looked back at me while my father drove.
Angelica finally spoke up. "Peggy, why did you say we? You're one person.."
I sighed and shook my head "yeah. I'm stupid. We can't be like you Angelica. Shit! I mean, I mean, I can't be like you."
My mom grew more and more concerned "baby, is everything okay?"
I nodded. "Can we just go home so we can pack for our vacation?" I asked, getting annoyed with myself.
My mom sighed but nodded "yes. We'll be home soon to pack, but then to the airport, okay?"
My sisters and I nodded.
Again. That was close. I need to be careful. We need to be careful.
