[ Chapter  S E V E N ]

"Hey, I'm back!" I called as I walked through the door, breathing heavily due to my run home.

As I got into the living room I spotted the one person I was hoping to avoid.

"Hey! Where have you been? I've been waiting for an hour and I'm starving!!" Ezzah said to me as she rocked my baby nephew in her arms.

"As you can probably tell, I'm starving too. I haven't had anything since breakfast! Can you imagine?"

I took the baby from Ezzah and soon as she was close enough, she gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"Lexi, take care of your own god damn kid! We're starving here!" I called out to my older sister. Then I turned my attention back to my little sunshine.

"Hey, little sunshine! How bright do you plan on shinning today?" I asked her with a squishy voice as she pinched my cheeks.

"Oww!" I cried out when more pressure was applied to my cheeks, she then giggled at me and went back to her mother. As a punishment, I tickled her tiny little tummy.

As you've probably understood by now, I love kids. I really do.

I think that it's because of my family situation; when I was younger, both my parents were doctors and they often had to work night shifts and my siblings, all older then Luc and me, went out at night and especially on weekends. I used to stay at home with him and the babysitter (Hazel) and that brought us closer. We've been through a little rough patch these last couple of years and in the process, we've gotten really tight.

"I'm sorry, I had some chores to do around the house and she just didn't want to let go of me,"

"That's fine, you know I don't mind looking after the little devil," my friend said.

Twenty-five minutes later, Ezzah and I walked into our favourite café, Momma and Pops's Café.

It was cosy. The interior was made out of big bricks, positioned on top of one and another in a sloppy way and lanterns were hung from the ceiling of all shapes and sizes and all the colours they could find.

In the middle was my favourite part of all. Over the years it kind of became 'our table'. It was an old jeep; seats, door and ceiling removed, covered in paint and the signature of everyone and anyone who pleased. The middle of the empty space of the jeep was a table and four chairs were set around it.

I loved it here because even though it was clean and spotless, it kind of had a messy, untidy vibe to it. Not many people knew about this place since it was outside of our town. It also had a rebellious side to it because it wasn't following the undefined rules of how a restaurant, cafe or bar should be.

The two of us headed over to our usual spot and saw our idiot sitting there stuffing his face with the last of his fries. Ezzah slapped behind his head and took a seat in front of him while I just stared at him open-mouthed, unable to move.

"You started without us?" After hearing my voice, a flash of guilt took over his features and he paused mid-chew.

"I'm sorry!" he said and swallowed his bite.

"Do you have any idea how hungry we are? No not hungry, we're starving! And to top it all of, I've been out since ten thirty in the morning, to study!" I snapped at him.
