Chapter 8:

Finn's POV

I drove in my truck to Millie's house, lost in my thoughts. She had asked me early this morning if I had wanted to come to her house to do homework, before everything with Jaeden happened.  I couldn't get what happened this morning out of my head, no matter how hard I tried. Although it was a short conversation, I was fucking mad. I couldn't stop picturing Millie's face after, and how the tears welled up in her eyes and the sadness her face showed. After driving for a little while, I pulled up to her house and walked up to the door. After a few moments, Millie slowly opened the door, quickly rubbing her red eyes. Although she tried her best to hide it, it was very easy to tell she had just been crying.

"Hey, Finn," she faintly smiled.

"Hey, Mills," I said as I walked in through the front door.  I turned my head, noticing her parents sitting on the couch.

"This must be Finn," Millie's dad smiled.

"Sure is," Millie replied.

Millie's mom stood up and walked over to me, pulling me in for a hug. "It's very nice to meet you Finn!" I smiled and looked over at Millie, who shook her head in embarrassment.

"It's nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Brown," I smiled.

"We've heard so much about you! Millie ta-"

"Alright we're gonna go do some homework," Millie said, grabbing my arm, "we'll be upstairs."

We ran upstairs to her room, which I was now familiar with, setting our bags down and sitting on the floor.

"So," she shifted through her backpack, "what do you wanna start with?"

I stayed silent for a few moments, still bothered by the fact that she had been crying.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" I said quietly.

"No, Finn, it's over," she said, still looking down, "let's just move on from it, alright?"

"I can't, Millie, I know you were crying and-"

She immediately looked up, the sadness still visible in her eyes. "Finn, just... just forget about it." I stayed silent for another few moments.

"You know what he said," I paused, "wasn't true, right? It's not true at all, Millie."

Suddenly, her expression changed, her eyes turning cold. "He wouldn't have said it if it weren't true."

"Listen to me," I leaned in closer.

"Finn-"

"No," I said sternly, "listen to me, Millie. You are anything but a freak, understand? We all go through shit. We have shitty problems and we have to deal with shitty situations, but that doesn't give anyone the right to go around and start giving you labels based off of the shit we go through- especially Jaeden. He's a fucked up person, Millie, and he's even more fucked up for calling you that."

She shook her head, trying to keep the tears from spilling out of her eyes. I pulled her in, wrapping my arms tightly around her. I moved my head on top of hers as I felt her tears spill on to my sleeve. I stayed silent for a few moments, letting her cry it out, until she broke the silence.

"I'm the fucked up one, Finn," she whispered, letting out a small sob.

Finn's POV

The next morning at school, I entered the building alongside Millie. After everything that had happened yesterday and the long night we had, I didn't want to leave her side- not now at least. She was hurting, and I needed to help her through it. Although it may seem like it's not a big deal, I know how much she takes that stuff to heart.

I had my arm wrapped tightly around her shoulder, keeping her right up close to me. I was proud to show her off next to me, and if anyone had anything to say about it, they better leave her the fuck out of it.

As we walked down the hallway, I noticed Jaeden, Jack, and Wyatt walking past us, going in the opposite direction. As they walked past, Jaeden glanced over at me and gave me a devious smirk- one that left an uneasy feeling in my stomach. One that sent chills throughout my body. One that made me wanna punch him in the face, right then and there.

Millie's POV

Later that day at lunch, Finn, Caleb, Sadie, Gaten, and I all decided that because it was such a nice day, we should go outside. As they began to walk outside to find a table, I stopped at the door.

"I'm gonna go buy a lunch guys," I said.

"Wait, I'll come wit-" Finn walks over to me.

"I'm fine, Finn," I smiled, reassuring him.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, it'll only take a minute."

He hesitated, but then walked off with the rest of the group. Because of yesterday, he insisted on not leaving me alone. I appreciate him for doing that, but I needed to start doing things for myself.

I walked to the lunch line, grabbing a tray, when someone stood next to me a few moments later.

"Hey Millie," he turned to me.

I looked up, my heart sinking to my stomach. It was Jaeden.

"Get the fuck away from me, Jaeden," I glared at him coldly.

"Woah," he laughed, stepping closer, "I was just coming to say hey."

I stared at him dead in the eye, not being able to move.

"Anyways," he moved closer, "how was your little one week vacation to the madhouse?" He smiled.

"Fuck you, Jaeden," my throat began to close up. He began to move his hand over to my hip, and I stood frozen.

"Don't worry," he leaned in closer, "crazy girls are hot." He winked, slowly taking his hand away from my hip and walking away.
