Chapter Ten

Paige

Cody and Lucas were talking about something being really important to Cody. I wonder what could be that important? Cody left soon after and I didn't even get to thank him about yesterday night. He really did look after me. I wish he would stay with us. I really want to spend some time with him but I think, I am just a next person to him, whom he needs to save and nothing much.

"Paige, Paige! I am talking to you, where did you go?" Lucas asked me. "The way you looking at the door as if you could melt it with your eyes. Does this mean you forgave Cody?"

"I think, I was never angry with Cody, I think, the thought of him betraying me was , what made me angry at him. If I think realistically, I don't even know him that well and he didn't even know about me and Anthony so he didn't betrayed me at all. I think I was just over reacting, beside I need him and I know that he's the only one who can keep me safe. He is strong and brave and caring and I am really attracted to him but to him I am just the next person who he needs to save and help. I know there is something going on here that is beyond my understanding and whatever is happening to me, it only happens in movie." We were just talking and Cody walk on us and stopped us from continuing.

" that was Peter" cody said to Lucas " he wants us to settle the dispute by having the Rabbit match. "

"Rabbit match? But that's kids game, he must have some hidden agenda behind it." Lucas exclaimed.

"I know, but Peter brought one of the council member and he is ancient as well just like grandpa and he says this is the way to go, so grandpa agreed. We have a match to play and an hour to get ready. ". Cody replied.

I couldn't stop my self and ask "what is rabbit match? And what is the dispute?"

Lucas told Cody to get all the player ready and turned towards me " rabbit match is an very ancient game and no one plays that anymore. We are all civilised people and can agree on decisions just by talking. We still use this game only to teach our youngs on discipline. In the game our wo.... our dogs hunt the rabbits. Each adult rabbit gives you 50 points and baby rabbit gives you 25 points. Hunt is so violent that mostly all the rabbits that are caught dies before making to the final. But if you manage to get live rabbit you get 100 points for adult and 500 points for baby. In the end whoever got most points get the price."

" what is the big price? And how do you control your dogs?" I asked

"We link with our dogs and we see through their eyes. We see what they see and they do what we tell them to do. If they get hurt we get hurt, if they die we die. Some time the whole pack dies of it. That's why no one plays it anymore, there is too much bloodshed with it. "

"The price must be quite high for you guys to agree on playing this silly game" I asked. This time it was Cody who answered my question as he entered the room.

" the price is too high for my liking but its too valuable for me to let it go to anyone. I will die before anyone has this price. And you don't need to worry about the price. Lucas go get something to eat and then get ready." Cody said dismissing me and Lucas and he is right I don't need to worry about the price as I will see it in the end anyways.

" let's go downstairs and have something to eat " Cody said pulling me out of bed.

" you go I am coming"

"No, I'll wait for you"

"Ok"

We went downstairs and there were lots of people there, all gathered around eating and talking amongst each other. Everyone had armband on their arm and some people had similar colour band and some had different coloured band. . Everyone stopped talking as we entered, Cody waved his hand and everyone went back to whatever they were doing. We just sat down and Anthony comes in asking.
