Even though we flapped our wings as hard as we could, we were losing altitude!
"Control your dive! Before we reach the bottom, spread your wings out wide!" Sadie yelled over the wind. I tried hard to resist putting my wings out and flapping, and I could tell Alasne was having the same problem.
"Here we go!" I screamed like I was on a rollercoaster. Quick as a flash, I put my wings out. I instantly parachuted up to the sky and glided onward. My chest heaved up and down trying to get oxygen. One quick glance beside me told me Sadie and Alasne had done the same thing. To test turning, I leaned right. Soon I was fifty feet away from my friends, so I leaned back to them. As soon as I got to them, I asked Sadie, "How did you know to do that?"
"I don't know." She said, sounding troubled. "I heard someone whisper, 'close your wings and open them at the bottom."
"Well, at least it saved our lives." Alasne said, sounding relieved. I suddenly realized we were far from home. Would my mom and dad miss me if I was gone for too long? Do I know my way home from here? Have people seen us flying? I pondered these questions as I said,
"We should turn around to go home. Our parents don't know where we are."
"Good idea Layren. We can figure all of this out tomorrow." Alasne agreed. We flew the rest of the way in silence. I was thinking of how we change back. I had an idea from The Red Pyramid. We reached the hill of snow, and I circled around until I landed.
"I have an idea of how to change back," Alasne said.
"What is it?" Sadie wondered.
"Well, think of you standing normally in front of you. I got this idea from a book." she replied. Well, I guess I wasn't the only one who read The Red Pyramid. I closed my eyes, picturing myself standing there in front of me. I cautiously opened one eye. Was I back to normal? I opened the other eye and looked down. I had hands! Feet! It was like-
"Magic!" Someone said my thought aloud. "You found my dragon crystal!" I turned around. This male was wearing all black. The strangest part? He wore a necklace just like mine!
"Who are you?" Alasne asked the strange man.///
