"Tris, how are you?" Cole grins, kicking his feet up on the table.
"I'm okay, how are you?" I say, warily.
"You know, your habits remind me of the Abnegation." He's all confidence.
"Well, that's strange." I try to keep from glancing away from his intense gaze.
"Tell me, what faction were you from?"
"Dauntless." I'm lying, I nervously fidget my hands.
"Liar," He sneers. "You have Abnegation tendencies. I am from Dauntless; first ever transfer to Abnegation." He claps his hands. "Beat that Eaton guy for the position, last year. But, Tris," He pauses. "Beatrice, I know where you're from."
"How do you-"
"We went to school together." He grins.
"Oh...is that all you wanted?"
"I wanted to see if you'd lie, and you did." His stare was fierce. "I know who the real Rep is - Erin? Rick? - but I don't want him to come back. I want you, because you'll understand Abnegation's problems like none of the others will. They were all faction-borns. They have no idea what it's like to switch factions, thoughts, ways of life. But we do."
"You will have to speak to Eric about that." I shake my head, politely. "I don't make the decisions."
"He said he didn't care. He hates these meetings anyway - He's a faction transfer, you know. Erudite." Cole shrugs. "You'll be back? Two weeks?" I sigh, shrugging.
"I'll mark it on my calendar. Goodbye, Cole." I reach out my hand, using the Dauntless tradition, and be grins, shaking it tightly.
"Ah, I miss shaking hands." He sighs, dropping my hand. "Bowing is so...cold, you know?"
I did.
"Okay, Cole. Bye." I turn away from him, walking out of the building and taking the train all the way back to Dauntless.
I jump from the car to the building, landing on my feet. I've gotten better at this since initiation.
I jump down into the net, hoping Tobias got his suit.
The wedding was soon, just two weeks away. I would be married to him, and we would be happy.
Forever.
I go to the cafeteria, my stomach rumbling, in need of some food.
I grab a pre-made silver tray full of food and take it back to my room, ready to eat and sleep.
Tobias is sitting at his desk when I get back.
"Tris." He sighs, smiling.
"Four." I grin, sitting on the bed.
He spins on his chair, facing me.
"About the wedding-Ooh! Cake! Mine." He takes my cake from my plate, grinning.
"Tobias!" I yelp. "Get your own cake."
"Why would I get my own when I have you to get it for me?" He shoves some of my cake into his mouth.
"Shut up." I say bashfully, eating mor of my hamburger.
"Anyway, about the wedding - think we could move it up?"
"Really? How soon?" I smile.
"I was thinking...two days from now...Friday."
"Why? Is there something going on?"
"It's just...I can't wait any longer and I reserved a get-away house in Amity for Saturday and I don't know." He shakes his head nervously, but I grin.
"That's fine! We've just got to spread the news!" He smiles, writing on his desk.
"S'all ready done." He grins, showing me a flyer. (To the side)
"Oh my God, Tobias! Thank you!" I fling my arms around his neck, kissing him there. "I love you so much, oh my god, Tobias."
"I love you, too, Tris." He chuckles. "You're welcome."
"Ready for bed?" He asks and I realize how late it is.
10 o'clock at night.
And I'm so exhausted, that I nod.
I slip into pajamas - a shirt and silk pajama pants - and crawl into bed as Tobias showers.
The pillows smell like him, so I crush them to my face and fade out into sleep as he comes out of the shower, water dripping from his hair as he crawls in next to me.
He wraps his arms around me and we fade into sleep, holding each other.
I forget to look at the gentler parts of him, like this, and when I find them, it always surprises me.
