Dennis and Casey were to steal a car as soon as they got into town. They didn't talk to each other the entire walk to town, when they stole the car, or even on the drive. Casey couldn't take the silence, but Dennis spoke first.
"It doesn't have to mean anything." He said.
Casey was looking out the window at the time, but turned to face him when he spoke. "What?" She asked, unsure if she heard him right.
"What we just did. It doesn't have to mean anything. We were high on adrenaline and our first kill. That was the most likely outcome as to what was going to happen next." Dennis told her, wanting to include that it wasn't him she slept with.
"You're right. It was." Casey turned back to the window, hurt at how he was just able to sweep what they did under the rug.
They got back to the hotel a little after 9am. Dennis gave her their hotel room key. "I'm going to go to ditch the car. You should sleep."
Casey took the keys. "I'm not actually tired. I'm going to go shower and change and then I think I will just go to the office." Casey turned to walk away, but Dennis grabbed her wrist. She pulled it back and turned to face him.
"You don't have to do that anymore." He told her.
Casey shrugged. "I don't mind it. Besides, what's the harm with earning a little money on the side?"
Casey turned around and this time, Dennis didn't stop her from walking away. He watched Casey walk back to their room and then went to the stolen car. He planned to ditch the car and clean any trace of them. Then he would take a public bus back here. He started the car and drove away.
Casey watched as the water turned a light shade of pink as the blood washed off her. She decided to sit with her knees pulled up to her chest. She didn't want to stand because she was scared her knees would give out on her. She had the weirdest night of her life, but she didn't regret anything. Perhaps Dennis was right and the only reason they slept together was because they were high on adrenaline and killing gave them such a rush, but she didn't car.
"I had sex with Dennis." Casey said out loud, letting that sink in. She was so scared of him when they first met and all she could think about was escapist from him, but now.... Now she saw him differently. He wasn't that creepy guy who made Marcia dance for him. Now he was the misunderstood man she willingly slept with. She felt a smile creep into her face.
Casey got out and changed into a plain red t-shirt and black sweatpants. She wished she could wash her jeans, but she didn't know if this place had a washer. Casey pulled her hair into a ponytail checked herself in the mirror. She looked like herself except for the blonde hair. She shook her head and left the room, making sure to lock it. She never used to look at herself in the mirror. She had to find a way to put their night behind her.
Casey went into the office, turned on the lights, and changed the sign to 'open'. She went to the back room and double checked for a washer. Nothing, but there was a door that Casey had never looked through. She opened it and found she washer dirty and dead. She saw that the cords were disconnected some were even showing their wires. "Great." Casey muttered and went back to the front room.
No one came in. She flipped on the radio and switched through channels, wondering how long it would take to find the investigator's body. The news didn't mention the missing girls from Philadelphia or Kevin. They made a brief mention of the arsonist that was still setting fires, but then back to Baltimore news. Casey tried to clean up the office a little bit, but it still had the same full look like before.
