While Detective Clark and his team were investigating the murders, Casey and the Hoard were celebrating the panic and confusion they caused. They would gather around the radio or buy the newspaper to read the latest updates in the case. There was never anything linking them to the murdered teens so they never had to fear. Dennis made sure the bodies were disposed of without a trace of evidence and the Beast was the one to string them on the alley wall. Patricia, Hedwig, the Beast, and Dennis were the ones who wrote on the bodies.
Casey sat in the car keeping an eye out for any witnesses. She kept her eyes peeled all around her, making sure to avert her eyes from the alley. Somethings were best left unseen. She curled the ends of her short hair around her fingers while she waited for the personalities to finish up their work. She couldn't quite get use to the length of her hair, but she thought no one would be able to recognize her because of her drastic change.
In the weeks following the finding of the bodies, things began to fall into motion. Dennis stopped seeing Dr. Jacoby and stole all records pertaining to him. The doctor was part of a bigger plan now and they couldn't be tied back to him. Casey and the Beast started scouting for other places to find impures and even checked out a few. Their relationship continued to grow and become more serious, but they still kept it a secret. Casey wanted to tell him that she loved him, but didn't want to ruin what they had. She wanted to keep their relationship just the way it was.
But Casey didn't have enough time in the day to worry about that. She still ran the hotel and helped clean out the third floor holding cage. Hedwig's lessons were put on hold, but he didn't mind. He would still hang out with her in the office, in his room, or at night before they went to sleep. Casey wanted to keep Hedwig in the dark about what they were doing, but the Beast insisted that he know everything. Casey worried that would be too much for the boy, but gave up arguing against Dennis and the Beast.
One day, when Casey was doing a word search in the office, Dennis put a black flip phone on her desk. She looked up and him and pointed to the phone with the tip of her pen.
"What's that?" She asked him.
"A phone." He replied.
Casey rolled her eyes. "I know that! I mean, what's that for?"
Dennis slid it over to her. "It's for you. As a just in case. Our number is already programmed in it. If you do ever use it, break the phone as soon as you can. It's a disposable, so it can't be traced, but do it as a precaution." He explained to her.
Casey picked up the small phone and slipped it into her pants pocket. "Okay, I will. Thanks." Dennis nodded and left the office. Casey didn't really understand why she needed the phone. Everywhere she went, she was accompanied by one of the personalities. She never thought she would have a reason to use it.
A few weeks after, Casey was sent out for a grocery run. "By myself?" She asked Dennis.
"Yes. I need to clean the holding cage and I need the supplies on that list. You can do it, right?" Casey gave him a look in disbelief.
"Yeah, I can do it." She stuffed her phone and list in her blue jeans pocket and grabbed the car keys.
"Be safe." Dennis told her as she left.
"Will do." Casey told him, never turning around. Casey got in the car, put her phone in the cup holder, started the car, and drove away. She went to the store farther away from the hotel as a precaution and found a parking spot the furthest away from any cameras.
Casey got out of the car and put her blue jacket hood over her head and looked down. She tried to rush in the store, but not so much that she was noticeable. She felt awash in paranoia and had to keep looking over her shoulder to calm herself down. It was when she was looking over her shoulder that she bumped into someone. Casey saw the police badge on their shirt first. She backed up quickly, not looking the person in the face.
"I-I-I'm sorry." Casey stuttered. She made the mistake of looking up at the man as she moved away. The cop studied the girl, convinced he had seen her before.
Casey finished her shopping, paid, and fled the store. As she was walking back to her car, she heard someone say her name. Her full name.
"Casey Cooke!" She didn't dare turn around. She picked up her pace and tried not to look suspicious. She was screwed. She had been made. What if the man called the cops?
"Casey Cooke?!" The man called out again and she heard him began to run. By this time, Casey had reached her car and didn't even bother putting the things in the trunk. She threw them in the passenger seat and went to get in the driver's side.
Just as she opened the door, someone grabbed her by the shoulder. "Casey Cooke?" The cop asked, trying to get a good look at her face.
"I'm sorry. You have the wrong person." Casey said, averting her face and trying to turn away.
"No, I don't think I do. Are you okay?" The cop asked, not budging. Casey jerked her shoulder out from his grip and quickly got in the car. She locked the door and started the car. The cop banged on her window until she drove away and out of sight. He didn't see her license plate number, but he quickly got in his vehicle and tried to find her.
Casey drove away, trying to speed, but not enough that anyone would pull her over. She needed to get back to the hotel. Or as close as possible and walk back. The car had a fake license and it looked just like any black car, so Casey hoped that if the cop followed her he wouldn't be able to recognize it. She couldn't see any car following her and she settled down a bit, thinking she was free.
It was only when Casey was at one of the last turns before the hotel that she noticed a police cruiser was one car behind her.
