Jacques followed his fellow elves to where they had promised to meet the tribe of dragons that lived nearby. They had been at war with them long before he’d been born and now they were going to try and settle this with a peace treaty before even more casualties could take place. When they got there they saw giant dragons in all colors and sizes, the one in front was a giant gold dragon that watched them with intelligent eyes.
“We agreed to meet to discuss the treaty we made.” Ardaer, Jacques’ father told them.
We will agree to your terms Elf King but if you break the treaty… we will wipe out your kind. The Golden dragon said using telepathy so they could hear them.
“Then we are in agreement, we help protect your kind and Alagaёsia; and in return you give us dragon eggs that will chose a rider to bond with.”
They will train in magic and combat, we will help you with part of this process but once our part is done you’re on your own.
Five dragons stepped forward and place a red, green, black, purple, and silver egg in front of them. The Gold dragon snorted and flew into the sky with the other dragons following him. Ardaer motioned for his guards to pick up the eggs and lead them back to Ellesmèra, which was the capital city of Du Weldenvarden. His father had brought Jacques and his brother Toron to the conference because one day one of them would be keeping the peace and they needed to experience how to negotiate with others, or in this case dragons.
When they got back they were greeted by the citizens of their city, Ardaer held up his hand to silence them and waited until all the whispering had died down before letting out a sigh.
“We have successfully made a truce with the dragons! The war is now over and our enemy is now our ally!” He announced, “We have brought back with us five dragon eggs that will hatch when they feel the presence of their rider.”
As he said the word ‘rider’, murmurs erupted from the gathered crowed of elves, confusion spread across their faces. Their father shouted for silence again as they started to get louder.
“The people who become bonded will become known as Dragon Riders, they will protect our allies and all of the innocent in Alagaёsia!” He announced before waving to his guards to follow him to his courtroom.
Jacques and Toron watched as the guards placed the dragon eggs on a wooden table, they stood behind them as elves came by and stayed with them for a few hours to see if they hatch. They never did though, about half of the people in Ellesméra had tried to hatch the eggs, elves from Osilon to Ìlia fёon came to try their luck with the eggs. On the third week of this something finally happened. There was a large commotion and people started running to the courtroom where the eggs were, a young girl with wavy dirty blonde hair was on her knees watching the purple egg hatch in front of her.
When the little hatchling finally got free it made an endearing growl and looked around at the elves surrounding it before walking over to the girl, she reached out a hand tentatively to pet its head and the baby dragon leaned towards her. As soon as they came in contact with each other there was a flash of light and she let out a gasp of shock, she pulled her hand back and looked at the mark that was left there in the shape of an oval that had spikes sticking out of it as it curled around into a lower case e.
“Get King Ardaer!” Toron shouted at a guard.
The guard ran out of the room and called for the King, when they came back Ardaer made them clear the room until it was just him, the guards, Jacques, Toron, and the girl who the dragon hatched for. By now she was done examining her palm and was petting the dragon as it laid half way on her lap.
