For NorinePerry
Bear POV
I watched as my wife sat with the other women of Browntown folding laundry. Norine was pregnant with our second child and she was due in the next few weeks. The sun was setting on one of our hottest days of the year. I ran over towards them and sat next to her. "What do you want?" She smiled at me as she said it. "Can't a husband check on his wife?" She giggled as I leaned over to kiss her. I placed my hand on her belly and the baby kicked. I leaned in close to her ear. "Meet me in our spot in the woods in the next ten minutes." She smiled at me as I ran towards our spot. I grabbed the basket that I had made up this morning. Our spot was created when we were dating and it was the place that held are most important moments. Our first kiss, first time we made love, I proposed, she told me that she was pregnant, and when Little Bear took his first steps. It was quiet all around me as I cleared our spot underneath our big tree. We could look across the valley and watch the deer walk across. I turned around at the rustling of the trees to see my beautiful wife come around the corner. She stood across the blanket from me. We walked closer and met in the middle of the blanket. We leaned closer together as we kissed.
Norine POV
We moved to our knees as we laid down. He lit a lamp that lit the area around us. I laid my head on his chest as he rubbed my back. "We finally have some time to ourselves." He pulled me closer. "We haven't really had any time alone since you have gotten pregnant." "Do you want to change that?" We moved out bodies around as he got on top of me. He kissed me hard as I ran my fingers through his hair. He moved his body between my legs when I felt something happening. He pulled away. "Why am I wet?" "I think my water just broke." He looked at me and I could see the fear in his eyes. My eyes matched his as he helped me up. "Stop, I can't move." I could hear him moving around and light got brighter next to the blanket. He cocked his gun and leaned it up against the tree. "I'm going to start a fire and I guess we are going to wait this out." I watched as he climbed up the tree to find branches for the fire. Branches were falling and crashing around me.
The temperature was dropping as he started the fire. I wrapped a part of the blanket around me and pulled myself closer to the fire. "What else did you bring in the basket?" "I had brought food for us to eat for dinner but it looks like we won't anymore." I tried to turn my body on my side to look at him. "I could eat something." I watched him pull out some deer meat and eggs. I craved both of those foods throughout my entire pregnancy. A contraction took over my body as I held my stomach and rolled over on my back. "We might be out here all night." He ran his fingers through my hair. "I will be here every step of the way." I started taking deep breaths as I tried to calm down.
Bam POV
We were getting ready to sit down at the dinner table as a family when I noticed that Bear and Norine weren't here. "Where's Bear?" "They are in their spot for the night." My brothers chuckled but all their wives smacked them or gave them a look across the table as mine did. We said grace and ate the deer that I had shot earlier today. Summer was in full effect as we heard the sounds outside. We left the windows open all through the big house. We continued to eat as I loved the feeling of my entire family being together.
Bear POV
Her contractions were getting closer together and the baby was coming faster than last time. "Do you know how to deliver a baby?" I sat beside her for a minute not saying a word. "Of course, I do." Then she gave me her famous look. "When you use that tone of voice, then I know you are lying and you have no idea how to deliver a baby." "What do I need to get?" She sat up to look at me. "You will need to sanitize your knife to cut the umbilical cord. The water will need to be warm enough to wash the baby and we need something to wrap the baby up in. Then you will need to dig a hole to put the after birth in the ground." I gave her the puzzling look. "I'm not going to explain to you what that means." I moved around quickly as I followed her instructions. I dug up a hole that was deep enough that the bears couldn't smell anything. I took the other blanket out of the basket and cut it up. I had two rags to clean the baby and one to clean up my wife. I was going to use my hoodie to carry the baby home. I had put water over the fire as it warmed up. My knife was already sitting in the small pot. "Bear, the baby is coming." I lifted her skirt and I saw the baby's head. "You can do this baby. Push for me." I watched all the effort that she was putting into bringing our baby into this world. "The baby is coming princess. Keep going!" We had gotten past the shoulders as I pulled the baby out. I put the baby in my arms when I noticed that we had a little girl. "Why isn't the baby crying?" Norine sat up to look at both of us. "Lay the baby on its stomach and pat its back." I did as I was told and then she cried.
I started cleaning the baby up as Norine took care of the rest. She cut the cord and the baby was released to me. I watched as my beautiful daughter's eyes opened and they matched mine. Norine was already settled down with everything in the basket ready to go. The baby was wrapped in my hoodie and I handed her over. "Meet our daughter Juliet Rose." Norine started crying as she held our daughter. "Let's go surprise the family." I put my arm around her waist and we walked slowly back towards Browntown.
Norine POV
We walked up the steps of the main house and we saw the entire family sitting at the table. He opened the door and everyone turned to look at the three of us. Ami was the first one out of her chair to see the new baby. "This is Juliet." Ami was crying as she sat back down next to Billy. Bear reached around me to grab a chair. We sat down together and I leaned my head back on him. I watched as the family held the newest Brown member and fell asleep a happy mother of two beautiful children.
