Matt POV

I was left alone in Browntown as I tried to forget about the bad shape my mother is in. My wife, Amy, was in town trying to run a few errands. Some of the family was coming up to help us with taking Browntown down. Amy was pregnant with our second child, a boy. We had decided to name him Ty, short for Tyler Andrew Brown. We already had a three-year-old daughter named Louise that was ready to be a big sister. I was trying to complete a few of the tasks that were too dangerous for them to be around. I had a jar of gun powder in my hand as I was standing over the deep freeze on the front porch. I guess the lid on the jar wasn't close tight enough when some of the powder fell out and into the freezer. I heard a noise and then something exploded. I once stood over it and then I was laying on my back. I could feel the breeze on my open wound on my head. I started screaming for help as if anyone could hear me.

Amy POV

"We need to hurry Lou, daddy is waiting on us at home. We need to help him pack up your room." "Just a minute momma." I told her that she could have one piece of candy. I knew it was hard for her to understand what was happening to grandma. She finally picked a piece and put it on the counter. The lady at the cashier rung me up and I handed her the money. We needed a gallon of milk and some coffee. "Let's go back to the boat. Hold on to my coat and don't let go." She held on tight as we walked back to the dock. I sat the groceries in the boat and helped her in. I grabbed the keys out of my pocket and started the boat. "Hello Mrs. Brown." "Hello Mr. Smith, its lovely to see you." "It's always great to see you." "I hate to run but I need to get back home to be with my husband." He has been flirty with me for as long as I could remember. He was harmless. "Then goodbye, you always know where to find me." I would never let a woman like you out of my sight. I would be worried that someone would win you over." I took off from my spot and Hoonah was in my rearview mirror. "Do you want to take a nap sweetheart?" She nodded her head and got comfortable in the floor next to my feet. It was beautiful to watch the sun set across the Alaskan Coast. I finally reached Browntown and it was very quiet. I held the groceries in one hand and her in the other. She was still asleep as I carried her across the beach. I reached the clearing of Browntown. I saw the light was on in the main house and I thought he was making dinner. As I walked closer, I saw an arm hanging off the porch with a puddle of blood on the ground. I knew it would attract bear if I didn't clean this up. I walked closer and I saw my husband's brain. I hurried up the stairs and took Lou in the house. I laid her down on the couch and the groceries on the table. I grabbed the walkie talkie off the shelf. I shut the door behind me and turned it on. "Please work. Hello, can anyone here me? I'm on Chichagof Island and I need medical assistance." All I could hear was static as I tried to wake him up. "Matt, baby you have to open your eyes for me." I felt him squeeze my hand and I tried finding help. "This is the Alaskan Coast Guard. Who is calling?" "I'm Amy Brown and my husband needs help." "What is wrong with your husband?" "He has a bad head injury." "Where is your location?â" "We are on Chichagof Island and we have a settlement here." "Ma'am, someone is on their way." "Thank you." I put the walkie talkie down and sat next to him. "I promise help is on the way."

Matt POV

I opened my eyes slowly as I took in my surroundings. I saw a lot of white as I looked for Amy. "Matt?" I could hear her voice close by. "Matt, can you hear me?" I turned my head towards her voice. Her eyes were so blue next to her blonde hair. "The most beautiful sight to wake up to." "It's great to see that your awake. Do you remember what happened?" "All I remember is that I was standing over the deepfreeze." "That's it? It exploded and you were hurt. I don't know how long you were laying there before I found you." I lifted my hand to hold her face. "You did everything you could. I was just being stupid." "I think about what would have happened if I would have been in California." "I don't want you to blame yourself. I'm fine." "You had to have nine staples in your head." "Nine?" She nodded her head. "I'm going to go get a nurse. I'll be back." She left the room in tears as I watched her leave. I noticed that she didn't have much of a stomach anymore. A nurse came into the room. "It's good to see you awake, Mr. Brown." "It's good to be awake." "Do you think you can answer a few questions?" "Sure." "What is your full name?" "Matthew Jerimiah Brown." "Good. Who is this woman standing next to you?" "My wife, Amy Brown." "Great. Do you know the date?" "August 3, 2017." They looked at each other. "What?" "It's actually October 1st." "October? I was out for that long?" "Yes." "That means, I missed Ty's birth." "You did but he is perfectly healthy." "Where is he?" "His asleep in the nursery." "How long ago was he born?" "Two days ago." "Then why are you out of bed?" I tried to sit up. "Don't move, Mr. Brown. We don't want to hurt your head." "Amy should be lying down and resting her body." "I promise that I'm just fine." "I'm going to leave you both alone. I will let the doctor know you are awake." The nurse walked out of the room and left us alone. "Is Ty okay?" "He looks just like his daddy." I laughed but it hurt my head. "I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon." She giggled at me and leaned down. "Can I kiss you?" "I think I can do that." She kissed me deeply and I felt like I was doing something with my life. "I love you." "I love you too." We mumbled those words against each other's lips.

The door opened to the nurse bringing our son to meet me. "I thought you might want to meet your son." She handed him over to me and he had my eyes. "Hey buddy. I'm your daddy." He wrapped his hand around my finger. "You're so strong. You're going to be a big, strong boy one day." Amy got into the bed and cuddled close to us. "Where's Lou?" "She's asleep on the couch beside us." We looked over at her and she was sound asleep. "I think this is the happiest I have ever been." "Good." She kissed the side of my face as we looked down at our son.
