Deanna POV

I was standing on my beach. I was standing on my own land. I had finally accomplished what I had wanted to do for years. I finally got out of Miami, I left my corporate job, and I left my cheating fiancé. I had found him in bed with my mother, a week before the wedding. My father was a wealthy sport's agent at his own agency. I had followed in his footsteps but I had always wanted to do something else. That was the finally straw as I sold everything expect two suitcases of clothes and the backpack that I carried. I bought me a plane ticket to Alaska to live the life I wanted. I bought a piece of land on Chichagof Island in Southeast Alaska. I had bought a small boat in Hoonah and I bought a few supplies to keep me afloat as I build me a house. I walked towards the forest and I found the piles of wood to build my house. I was only going to build me a one room house that would have a bed, woodstove, and a rocking chair. I got out all my supplies for the camp when I heard a gunshot nearby. I wasn't told that I had neighbors when I purchased the land. I looked around and I heard voices. I had bought me a gun but it wasn't supposed to arrive until tomorrow. I didn't have anyway to protect myself. The voices kept getting louder when I saw a man climbing a tree.

Bear POV

I looked down into the valley when I saw the most beautiful woman. She had short red hair and it looked to me that she liked to work out. "Bear! Do you see anything?" "I see a girl." "A girl?" "She is standing in the clearing." Gabe and Matt were rushing to meet her. Bird waited for me to get down and we walked together. "You better get to her before they do." "A girl like that wouldn't want someone like me." "You never know." We reached the clearing when I noticed the three of them talking. "I'm sorry if my brothers are bothering you." "They aren't bothering me but I kind of wanted to meet the mysterious man in the tree." Gabe and Matt turned to me and gave me a look. "I'm Bear." "Bear?" "It's a nickname that my other older brother named me as a child." "How many brothers do you have?" "I have 5 brothers and one sister." Bird had spoken for me as I was frozen but I cut her off. "Would you like to come over for dinner?" "I don't really know any of you but I need to get my camp set up before nightfall." "I could stay and help?" "I appreciate the offer but I think that I'll be just fine." "Our part of the land is on the other side of the island. Your welcome any time." "Thank you." "Well, we better get going before it gets too late. Our parents will be worried. It was nice meeting you." "You too." Both of my brothers had to drag me away from her and into the brush. "I hope we see her again." "She was very attractive." "I think she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen." "I think someone is in love." They laughed at me and we continued home. The rest of the night was clouded by the girl. I was beating myself up for not getting her name. I was sitting at the dinner table when I saw a hand being waved in front of my face. "Bear!" "What?" I turned my head to Bam and then to the rest of the family across the table. "What?" "They were telling us about the girl you met this afternoon." "I was just thinking about her." "Are we going to meet her?" "I invited her over anytime." We didn't say anymore on the subject as I climbed up to my treehouse. I crawled into my sleeping bag and fell asleep to thoughts about her.

Deanna POV

I couldn't get Bear's image out of my head. I could see the muscles on his arms and him holding me. My attention was taken out of my thought when I heard a wolf howl. I curled up under my blanket as I tried to fall asleep. I finally fell asleep to the wind howling.

I woke the next morning to a beautiful sunrise coming through the trees. I got ready for the day and fixed me breakfast over an open fire. I scrambled me three eggs to give me enough energy to walk over to the Brown's. I started walking along the beach until I saw smoke coming out of the trees. I saw a man washing his clothes on in the river as I approached him. "Excuse me?" He lifted his head and it was Bear. "Hello. I'm glad you came." "I'm actually here to ask a question. Can you teach me how to live in the bush?" He laughed and extended his hand. "Come with me." It was the beginning of a friendship that was turning into something more.

He helped me learn how to hunt and the family showed me how to make a home. They helped me build my house as Bear and I grew in love. I fell more for him each and everyday. We almost kissed one night sitting by the fire but I stopped him. I felt insecure about being his girl. Billy and Ami had 'adopted' me as another daughter when I walked into their house one afternoon. I needed to talk to them about mine and Bear's relationship. I sat down at the kitchen table across from them.

"Are you here to talk about you and Bear?" Billy laughed and took his wife's hand. "Bear came to us last night. He thought that you didn't want to be with him after you rejected him the other night." "I was just nervous. The last time I was in a relationship, he had an affair with my mother." "I believe that living out here has helped you to heal yourself and your heart. I think you should give Bear a chance because we raised him to be a noble man. I also believe that he has finally found the woman that he wants to marry." I let Billy's answer sink in and I got up from my chair. "Thank you both for your help. Do you know where he is?" "He is washing his clothes in the river." I raced out the door and down the steps. I stopped in my tracks as I thought about our almost first kiss.

We were sitting in my camp after a long day of work. All the other family members had already gone home and he promised he would be home later. "Remember when Gabe......" "Tripped over the log and rolled down to the river." We laughed long and hard until I noticed that he stopped. "What?" "Your very beautiful in front of a fire." My cheeks turned red and I turned my face towards the flames in front of me. "Your green eyes dance beautifully next to all the reds, yellows, and oranges." I felt him getting closer and I turned my head to look him right in the eye. He put his hand on the side of my face to pull me closer. We closed our eyes until I felt his lips on mine. "Stop." "What's wrong?" "I just...... I think it would be best if you went home." I watched as he ran home and I took my face in my hands. "Why did I do that?"

I was interrupted from my thoughts to someone calling my name. "Deanna? What are you doing here? What's wrong?" I didn't say a thing as I grabbed his face and kissed him. I pushed him back as he held me tight. I pulled away and looked up at him. "Thank you for helping me learn how to heal not just my physically wounds but my mental wounds." "You did all of that." We were silent until we heard someone yell. "Just ask her to be your girlfriend already." Matt was yelling at us from the porch. "I would love too." He pulled me close and kissed me. He stopped after moment but I didn't pull away. "Do you want to climb a tree?" He whispered against my lips. "Our tree?" He took my hand and we ran to our tree. He had taught me how to climb trees during on our hunts. We had found one that we really liked and it was along my land across the island. We each went up the sides and we reached the top at the same time. "Who knew that I would fall in love with a woman from the lower 48." I giggled at him and we kissed. We spent the rest of the day sitting at the top of the tree. It felt like I was on a magic carpet.
