Bear POV 

I turned on my side to take my wife into my arms. Last night was the first time we made love when she was pregnant. I had feared of hurting her or the baby. Instead of putting my arms around my wife, I was met with a blanket. I opened my eyes and saw a note sitting on her pillow. I picked up the piece of paper and it said "I'm going to the beach, so don't worry something hasn't happened to me. I will come back to bed shortly and then we can go for a second round." Norine POV

I was sitting on the bench that looked out onto the bay. The family has they made a trip to Juneau to get supplies for a baby shower. They were on their way home today but wouldn't be back until late tonight. I felt a pair of arms wrap around my neck and I knew it was my husband. "I thought you were asleep?" "I couldn't sleep without you next to me." He moved over to sit next to me when he sat down to rub my belly. I had gotten pregnant on our wedding night and I was due in a month. Bear POV

I was sitting in the corner of the room trying to sharpen my knife. She was still asleep as I looked over to her. She sat up with a scream and I ran over to her. "What's wrong?" "I don't know." Sweat was running down her face when I noticed a red spot on the sheets. I lifted the sheets to see blood pouring out of her. "Oh, my god." I felt useless as I tried to make her comfortable. I noticed her face was white as snow when I saw more blood. She leaned forward at another contraction. Her forehead was leaning on my shoulder. "We are going to get through this." She laid back down on the bed to rest her head on the pillow. The family wouldn't be back until tomorrow afternoon. I had to keep my wife alive for another 24 hours. "Let's get these sheets changed and get you cleaned up. I'm going to go warm the water, I'll be back in a minute." I kissed her forehead. I ran to the shower to start the fire to warm the water. I took the small fan to raise the fire and heat the copper. I waited a few minutes when I opened the door to test the water. It was finally warm enough as I ran back to Norine. She was trying to walk towards the door when I stopped her. "What are you doing?" "I can walk on my own." "No, you can't." I picked her up bridal style to the shower. I sat her down and I took off her nightgown. The blood was running down her legs. It had finally stopped when I heard a tree branch snap. I looked at her right in the eyes as I turned off the water. I put my finger over her mouth. I handed the towel to her as I opened the door slowly. I didn't see anything on our path to the cabin and picked her up. I ran across the way and shut the door behind me. "Did you hear something?" "I might had been a bear. They could have smelled the blood." I leaned her up against the wall as I stripped the bed. I laid the sheets in the corner of the room as I scrubbed the mattress. "I don't know if it will come out." "I can lay on the couch." "You need to be comfortable." She had gotten into the drawer to grab her clothes but she fell to her knees. I rushed over to her. "What's wrong?" "I'm bleeding again." I noticed the drops of blood as she laid down on the floor. I heard gunfire outside as I leaned over her to protect her. My gun was hanging on the wall when the door opened. I grabbed my shot gun and aimed for the door. I sat in front of her as I heard the footsteps coming towards. I wasn't moving away from her until they were safe. The footsteps were coming closer.

Norine POV

I was laying down in pain and the blood was running down my leg. I heard footsteps coming towards up but I couldn't hold my head up. "What the hell Bam?" "Ma wanted me to check on you." "Get ma because Norine has gone into labor and is bleeding." I heard him leave the room as I whimpered. I closed my eyes as the pain increased. "Help is coming princess." Two people came back into the room as I tried to focus on my breathing. "Let's get her to the bed." I heard Ami speaking to Bear and someone else. I felt two pairs of hands on me as I was lifted into the air. I could feel someone touching me as I opened my eyes to see Ami checking on the baby. "Bear, I need to speak to you outside." I felt his hand rubbing my head. "I'll be back in a minute, princess."

Bear POV

I followed ma outside room when she looked me right in the eye. "There is a slight chance that you could lose her or the baby. We don't have time to go anywhere so I just want you to be prepared." Tears were coming to my eyes when I hugged her tightly. "I can't lose her." "All we can do is pray."

Norine POV

I heard Bear crying in the other room and I knew something was wrong. I put my hands on my belly. "I love you so much baby." Tears came running down my face. "Even if that means if I can't be a part of it. I would let myself die to make sure that you could live." I started sobbing as I laid back and stared at the ceiling thinking about how my death will changed everyone's life forever.
