Chapter 20: Vroom Vroom

This Chapter is told by the POV of Steven

I start to wake up and get a massive headache. I rub my eyes and temples to clear it as much as I can then look around at my surroundings. Devin is blacked out in a heap a ways away from me and the others are all about the same. I see Jessica being laid on by her new friends the tiger and smile a bit. Only her could make friends with a tiger belonging to a madman that kills people. I look around some more but can't find Antonio. He's gone. I can't believe he did this to us. I lay back on my back and stare up at the sky. Even though the world has gone to shit, and the sky has turned a strange reddish color, it's still kind of peaceful to just stare at up there

A huge bluish light fills the sky for about five seconds off towards downtown. Then right after it fades away a huge explosion happens and even from this far away I can tell how enormous it is. I quickly wake the others and tell them about the explosion as they look at the smoke pillar in the distance

"We need to go see if we can help" Jessica says and begins to run off. I just lift her in the air and bring her back over here and set her down with the group again

"Stop running off" Devin says smiling at her "I also don't get how you can say you want to go see if people are ok after you just threatened to kill at least ten people today"

"Those were bad people. We help people if they are willing to be helped and help in return. That's what the good guys do" she says looking at me and nodding. I remember telling her that no matter what happens she needs to remain one of the good guys like me, Devin, and Antonio. I guess I was wrong about Antonio...

"That's good to hear, cuz that means I might have some chance of not being killed by you guys... Right..?" Shert says slowly walking up to our group. Devin swiftly walks towards Shert with his fist clenched

"Devin. Come on, man" I say not wanting any more fighting today. He reaches Shert and shoves his fist out in front of him. I shake my head and smile as I realize what he's doing. Shert just looks down at Devin's fist

"Well?" Devin says shaking his fist a bit. Shert fist bumps him and Devin puts his arm around him and walks up to us with him "This man right here is the reason we are all alive. It was his plan to have Brent fake kill me, and if he wouldn't have freed you all then I would have been of no use versus every one of Volt... Or well, Andy's men"

"I was sick of him killing innocent people. I knew him since we were young and he was always a nice person until his dad started beating him then when I went to a different highschool as him, he started giving up on being nice and became a bully. Then when he met that Him guy he turned into something else completely. He was evil. I had to stop it" Shert says looking around the group

"Well we are glad you did, if it wasn't for you, he probably would have tried to rape me again" Beth says and shudders

"Ok, yeah, Shert is good, blah blah blah. Can we go see if people need help now?" Jessica says getting impatient

"Yeah, hold on" Devin says walking the other way looking around "I want to see if Brent made it. I want him to join us as well"

"Andy killed him.." Shert says and points to a charred up corpse on the other side of the fence. Devin punches the fence then turns back to us

"Fine. Let's go. Quickly" He says and begins to sprint towards downtown. We all follow but as we run I look back a see a little boy peeking out at us from behind some debris. I meet eyes with him and he hides behind the debris again. I ignore him and turn to keep running with the others. We make it about six blocks before having to stop to breathe

"Hey guys?" I ask panting "Who all knows how to drive?" Devin, Jessica, Shert, and Milton raise their hands. I also know how to drive, so I cross the street and walk up into the parking garage of the church there. I start sending cars down that aren't either damaged or too small for all of us with the amount of drivers I have. Milton calls dibs on the four door red sports car, Shert picks the white pickup truck, and I set aside a nice black SUV for me. I go ahead and send Devin down a crappy ass four door so he can haul around the tiger without it clawing up the seats of one of our nicer ones

"Oh, hell no! I'm not driving or riding in that!" Devin yells up at me pissed off

"Yes you are, crybaby! You have to drive Jessica and the tiger" I shout back at him laughing

"It's Isabella! And I can drive it" Jessica says excited to drive her new pet around on adventures

"Yeah, so come on down and I'll find my own!" Devin yells back up to me and runs into the parking garage. I hop inside my car and float it down to the ground

"Hey Steven..? How exactly were you planning to start these cars so we can all drive them? I understand that Devin can start them with his powers but what about every other time?" Milton asks and I frown in thought

"I think I can help with that" Shert says and grabs a piece of metal from nearby on the ground and melts it when he touches it. I see what he is doing and use my powers to flow the liquid into the key hole of each car then Madeline chills the air near them and the metal hardens again in the shape of a key and I pass them out. Everybody gets in their cars and the others gets in whichever car they want to ride in. I look around for Devin and remember that he is looking for his own car

"Hey Devin?! You find one yet?!" I yell up at the parking garage

"No...! Not yet..." He trails off. I open my mouth to tell him to hurry up when I hear the low hum of a vehicle starting "Oh hell to the fuck yeah!!!" He yells and I can't help but smile when I see him speed out onto the street
