Journey in the Aftermath

Chapter 21: New Mission

This Chapter is told by the POV of Devin

I come speeding out of the parking garage on a yellow motorcycle that looks straight out of a ninja movie. I screech to a halt right next to Beth and put my hand out

"Well, my lady, we ride?" I ask and she takes my hand. I help her onto the back of the back and everybody drives off. Jessica is driving her crap-mobile with Isabella laying in the back, Steven is driving his SUV with Madeline in the passenger seat and Bailey in the back

"Wooohooooo!!!!" Levi yells out the window of Milton's sports car as they speed by me, he is made out of the same material as the car and honestly looks pretty badass. Shert and Oliver are in the truck driving safely behind everybody. And me and Beth just keep speeding past everybody weaving around all of the abandoned cars with ease. Steven pushes the cars out of the way for everybody else whenever we approach one that is in the way. It only takes about 15 minutes to get back downtown. We get out of our cars a block away from the smoke and run the rest of the way

"Oh my god!" Madeline yells when we make it to the building that the explosion happened at. It's Tano Tano's building. We all rush inside and look around for anybody that might be ok.

"Oh my god, Devin!" Beth screams and we all come running to her. She points to the wall opposite us. Hanging there are the bodies of Jack, Olive, Samantha, and Selena with the word 'Judgement' written in their blood above them. Beth walks up to them and tears up at seeing her friends like this. Each one of their eyes are completely black and they are all cut by what looks like a blade at the abdomen

"How did he find them?" Oliver asks

"Antonio.." I say pissed that I let him go. If I had killed him then they would all be alive

"Hey guys? Jack's eyes look funny" Beth says getting closer to his face "They look normal" She touches his eyelid lifting it to have a closer look. Jack jolts forward freeing himself from the wall and looking up at us all gasping

"What the hell happened?!" Milton yells kneeling down next to him and sitting him up. Jack looks around then at Beth

"You touched me. You saved my life. You can heal can't you?" Jack says slowing his breath finally returning to his lungs

"What the hell happened here?!" Steven shouts at Jack

"There was a huge bright light then an explosion. I woke up in a daze and saw a dark man murder all the others. He got to me and cut me good. He ran his fingers through the cut then started writing on the wall. Next thing I know I am waking up looking at you guys" He says panicking "Who the fuck was that guy?!"

"Was Antonio with him?" I say stepping closer

"Huh..? Antonio...?" Jack stammers

"Yes! Antonio! He's with them now! Was! He! Here!?" I shout getting pissed at my own failure

"No!!!" Jack shouts terrified "No! He wasn't here! Just the walking death"

"Well we need to find them!" Madeline yells

"Yeah, I agree. I didn't know these people at all and even I am ready to hunt down and kill anybody who is involved. I can't even imagine how you guys feel" Levi says trying to get people pumped up

"Yeah.. Well that hardly matters at the moment" Steven quietly says "There is no way we can possibly find them now"

"I might be able to help..." a voice says behind us. I turn an instantly blast the boy through the wall behind him. He stands up and shakes his head a little bit. I see now that it's the kid that has been following me around trying to talk to me

"Holy shit!! Brody!?" Steven yells and runs to the kid "You looked familiar but I wasn't able to tell until now!"

"You remember me?!" the Brody kid yells excited "I was sure they must have wiped all of your minds somehow at the lab. Me and Olivia barely got out before the explosion. A nice scientist named Gallith helped us escape"

"Oh... Brody... Me and Jessica saw Gallith... He didn't make it. I'm sorry" Steven says resting his hand on the boys shoulder

"Ok, ok. Hold on" I say stepping forward "Who the fuck is this kid?"

"Dude, really? Have they really messed you up so much that you can't even recognize me even now?" he says

"Devin. Brody is your brother. They must have made you forget why you were going to the lab in the first place. If you have no drive, you have no reason to fight your hardest. I wasn't there. So I wasn't fucked with" Steven explains and begins thinking to himself

"Wait... My brother..?" I say and everything comes rushing back. The frog man. The kidnapping. Olivia. "Wait! Where's Olivia?!" I say shaking my little brother

"She should be fine. We got separated. If you hadn't noticed, the only girls at Volt's school were his slaves. She would have been sent to a different one of the groups" He says explaining things to me like I'm a child

"Where can we find one of these groups?" I ask wanting to rescue my sister more than stopping Antonio

"I don't know. But I do know somebody who does..." He says with a devilish little smile that reminds me of myself. I hug him tight then turn towards the dead

"We leave after we bury them" I say and within ten minutes everybody is hard at work breaking away at the concrete in the street outside so we can bury our friends. This would be a lot easier with Antonio. Antonio... After I make sure my sister is safe. I'm coming for you!
