The two weeks had gone by fairly quickly, and I was actually kinda happy that the officer was there. We didn't really know what to call him because he never told us his name and we never saw his name badge, so I just decided to call him Sherlock, I mean, he didn't oblige to me calling him that, so that's what stuck. I liked his presence for a few reasons, the first reason I did was because he made us meals, and he didn't cheap out on the meals either, and the first Friday he was with us, he took us out to dinner, we were all astounded by it, we were pretty sure that he didn't like us, but he actually did. There was still a lot I didn't know about Sherlock, so one night I decided to ask him a few questions. He was sitting at the table with a newspaper in his hands and it was not too late in the evening, so I inquired.
"Hey Sherlock, you must know a lot about me from the police report, but I don't know really anything about you"
"Lets keep it that way."
He didn't seem like he was in the mood, but his complexion was always grimace, so I just thought I could get at least a few answers out of him.
"Just a few questions then ill leave you alone"
"Alright" as he folds the newspaper back in half and places it on the table as I proceed to sit next to him. "You get three questions"
"Are you married"
"If I was married do you really think I'd be here, I'd just get a new guy to do it"
"Okay? Alright, well what exactly did my parents tell you"
"That's confidential, police matter, you'll find out in a couple of weeks at the hearing"
"Alright fine, last question. What's your story, like where are you from."
"I'm originally from America, Long Island, New York to be exact. Both of my parents are 100% Russian, so therefore I am 100% Russian. Growing up I knew what I wanted to do, so I did what I wanted to do. I wanted to move to my parents home country, and become a police officer. And now look, I'm doing both of those things. That's all you'll get, now go wash up for dinner."
I was kind of happy for Sherlock, because he lived out his dream, and I think he must be happy do be able to do that.
Well the two weeks went by without a problem really, and we finally got to the hearing, it wasn't long, which was a relief. All four of us were called up to the witness stand, and we all told them the same basic thing, and then the jury made their decision, and like I said this took about three hours from start to finish.
The jury found both my parents guilty for abandonment and child endangerment. They were condemned to fifteen years in the Moscow Prison, and this made me happy and sad at the same time. I mean they're my parents and I love them, but they needed to be punished for what they did.
"I sentence Mikhail Petrov and Alexandra Petrov to 15 years in the country prison, bail is set at $500,000, and Gabriella, Francesca, Alexie, and Barkov Pertov will all be admitted to a foster home."
I started tearing up when I heard this, because I know family's get broken up in foster homes. And I looked over at Alexie, and he was crying too. He must have also known the fate for us. Alexie looks at me and says
"We have to tell Gabriella and Francesca what-"
He was interrupted when we hear someone scream out
"No they won't, i'll take them in.
Alexie and I turn to the voice, and it came from Sherlock. He must have really cared about us, and he must have also known we'd get split up.
"And who are you Sir"
