"Where have you been, Ellen?" my mom asked as soon as I stepped foot into my apartment.

"It doesn't matter,"

"Yes it does," her tone was sharp, things never change.

"I am an adult, I live by my own rules." I said as I straightened up my posture, making myself taller than her by an inch.

"We will be on our way," she huffed one last time before leaving the room.

I rolled my eyes to myself, this is why I live across the country from them.

I made my way to my bathroom and took a well needed shower. By the time I was out, the apartment was empty.

"Wanna go get coffee?" A familiar voice asked.

I turned around to find Harry bundled up on the couch, guess it wasn't empty.

"Sure," I grabbed my purse.

We walked the short trip down to the coffee house, "How have your gigs been going?"

"I play mostly at bars now," he answered simply while he politely opened the door for me.

I found the small table in the corner that I prefer, as Harry got the coffee. My eyes followed him as his walked up to the counter, where Courtney was propped up. Her eyes immediately lit up as he made his was over to her. She seemed to have cracked a joke, why else would he be laughing?

The same toothy grin was plastered on his face while he carried over the two coffee mugs.

"Thank you,"

"I noticed your parents left," he said as he sipped on the hot coffee. "Why is that?"

I shrugged my shoulders,"They just left."

He added some creamer to both of our drinks,"You don't like to talk about back home, do you?"

"I left Washington for a reason."

"Tell me more," he urged.

"I left to be on my own, away from people I wanted away from my life."

My eyes shifted to the bandage peeking out of his white v-neck.

"What's that?"

"A new tattoo," he smiled.

"Show me,"

He carefully removed the white bandage, revealing a human heart.

"Why a human heart?" I asked while voluntarily tracing the irritated skin.

"It's just a reminder of a certain someone," he pauses briefly to take a sip of coffee. "The positives and negatives."

My brows furrowed at his answer, I didn't quite understand it.

"And who is that certain someone?"

"That person isn't in my life they way they used to be," he sighed while sticking the bandage back over it.

I opened my mouth to say something, but I stopped as soon as I saw Courtney begin to swagger her way to our corner.

"On the house," she winked playfully in Harry's direction before she sat two cold drinks in front of us.

"Thanks," I tried my best to smile.

His eyes followed her small figure as she made her way back to the register.

He let out a big breath,"What the hell is this anyway?"

"It's the new Italian soda, do you read the specials?"
