An Open Letter to My Brother
Dear brother,
You’ll never admit it,
But you’re the golden child.
The youngest,
The talented.
Mom and dad won’t admit it either.
“We love you all the same.”
But that’s bull.
You’ll never know what it’s like,
To come home after a school day,
And go to sleep yet hope to never awake.
You’re like the people I can’t stand,
The ones that don’t have to work for anything,
It all just comes naturally for you.
Everyone falls in love with you,
But you don’t appreciate any of it.
They’re just more people that hand on your every word,
And give you everything that you ask for.
You don’t know how easy you have it.
You’ve never felt the pain I live through everyday.
Some of it,
It’s because of you.
Starving myself when you call me fat,
It’s not a joke.
I’m miserable,
Because can see the world,
And you’ll never know.
You’re my younger brother,
I shouldn’t have to live up to you.
Yet I live in your shadow everyday.
You’d never admit it,
But you’re the perfect child,
In their eyes,
You could do no wrong.
So there I pray,
That one day,
You’ll wake up and see,
The truth that I’ve been living in for years.
Sincerely,
Your sister.
