Mafu was running home in the rain, whining to himself about how forgetful he was and leaving his umbrella at school. Now he was trying his best to avoid being soaked wet by the downpour and had to take the long way home through some alleys. It wasn't his best idea because he kept looking around to make sure he wouldn't get mugged, but it was too late to do anything about it.

"This is so scary...! I should've just sucked it up and ran through the rain..." Mafu mumbled to himself, sighing. He was at least grateful he was near his home after who knows how long of walking.

In fact, he even saw the way out of the alley and sighed in relief, quickening his pace into running for it until he tripped. He dropped his bag and groaned, getting into a sitting position and seeing he dirtied his school uniform. The albino let out a frustrated sound and looked to see what he tripped on.

He saw a box turned onto its side and right beside it, a cat was laying on the floor.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry!" He apologized to the cat, even if he was sure it couldn't understand him. Carefully, Mafu reached a hand to it, afraid it was dead or something seeing as it wasn't moving at all. His heart sank when the closer he got, he saw that it still wasn't moving.

'A dead cat? This is horrible!! I hope I didn't kill it when I tripped on the box... I'll never be able to sleep if I did!!' Mafu thought to himself in a panic.

"H-hey... kitty?" Mafu said in a hushed tone, shaking its small body. The albino waited a few moments and was about to accept that he probably killed it, when its ear suddenly twitched and the cat opened its eyes and looked to him. Mafu gasped at the bright blue of its eyes.

"Oh... you're okay!!" He exclaimed, to which the cat looked... annoyed?

"E-eh?" Mafu said with confusion as the cat nonchalantly sat up as if nothing happened. It stared at him, as if waiting for something. Mafu stared back and decided to take a good look at the cat since it was easier to see it while it was sitting up.

The cat was black with really bright blue eyes that MafuMafu thought were very pretty. It was thin, like it didn't eat much and the albino could guess it was a stray just from the fact it seemed to live in the cardboard box he tripped over. He noticed that its left ear was torn off and it made him feel guilty. The cat obviously had a hard life, and he felt like he made it worse somehow.

An idea struck the albino, however, and he perked up.

"I'll take you home! Would you like that? You'll have a warm home and I'll take very good care of you!" MafuMafu said loudly with a smile, reaching a hand to the cat only for it to hiss and scratch his hand, making him flinch and pull it away quickly. It looked really mad and its fur was standing up as it hissed.

It scared the student, but he couldn't bear to leave the cat alone, so he sucked it up and grabbed it even when it started to wildly reach to scratch him.

"Stop! Please stop, kitty! I just want to help you!" He pleaded, knowing fully well it was useless as the cat continued trying to get away and scratch him. It was futile, just as the albino thought, but it only encouraged him more and he felt a sense of duty. The cat had obviously been mistreated who knows how many times in its life, and now the albino felt like he could make the cat's life easier by taking it in and being a caring owner.

Mafu smiled at the pissed off cat.

"I'll take good care of you, even if you don't like it!" He said happily, resuming his way home while carrying the cat.

He didn't realize how much his life would change because he took in a stray.
