I woke up to the tweeting of the birds. I know was laying upon feathered filled cushion on the sofa, in which I think was the Clarke's house. Remembering how I think I had fallen asleep in Olly's arms, just the thought left me blushing. I could feel my cheeks heating up, like a fire burning.

"You're cute when you blush, you know," I looked over to see Olly sitting just watching me. Turning away I hid my face in the cushions.

"It's so not. I hate it," my voice came mumbled, but I knew Olly would be able to hear me, with his super hearing. In one second, literally, he was sat next to me. I guess that would be possible with his super speed, being a vampire and all.

I guess I haven't really explained that part yet, about what actually makes us so different from humans. Well for one us shifters can change forms, which tends to be a wolf, if say we got really really angry. I've read we see red when we shift for that reason. But we can also shift when ever we want. And it kills like hell when we shift. Imagine your bones breaking that growing into a totally new position, then growing fur, yep not exactly the most fun experience. However we do get the advantage of having the cool senses wolves have, such as extra good hearing and sight, plus we tend to be stronger and faster than any human. Unlike vampires who are always cold, as you would guess with someone who was technically dead, we are always warm and tend to have a higher body temperature than anyone. Though, like us vampires have the super hearing, sight, strength and speed. However that don't have an amazing sense of smell that's one for us shifters. Also you can only become a vampire if you are bitten by one and they pump "not quite sure what it is" back into you. Whereas us shifters are born with the gene already in us.

Olly had his arm draped around my shoulders, "Did you have a nice sleep sweetheart?" he asked. I rolled my eyes.

"Since when did you call me sweetheart? I'm no more sweet than you are alive," I stated, it was true though, how could you call a wolf sweet?

"Since now, because your my sweetheart," this was getting too mushy and cheesy for me. After spending most of your life hiding in yourself, it was quite a rapid change to having someone become so close to you in a short space of time.

I knocked Olly's arm off my shoulders, seeing the happiness on his face practically drop off.

"I'm sorry Olly, I just need some space. I have no idea what that power was I used at school, and I feel like I just want to be alone to think." I couldn't lie to him, even knowing how much it would hurt. It would hurt me more, as I was the wolf and could feel that mate bond where ever I went.

See a mate is someone who was made for you by the moon goddess herself. They are meant for you and only you. Though unlike my situation it tended to between shifter and shifter. Not in any history book I've read is there one that speaks about a wolf and vampire being mates, and our species are meant to be rivals.

I guess your wondering why that we have been rivals for as long as time has been. Well I don't really know either, but it has something to do with the first vampire and shifter falling out over something, that has never been forgiving. It's just another mystery to add to the growing pile I seemed to be building.

"But Sophie..." Olly started but I cut him off.

"Please Olly, just give me sometime," and without letting him give a reply I was out the door and shifting into my wolf form. My fur was red with black tips to my ears, feet and tail. I felt the tug on my heart as I moved further and further away from Olly.

Sophie what are you doing, Lucia called in my head

I had to Lucia, I couldn't think straight with him around, and you know it, I replied knowing all to well she would agree.

Okay, okay, lets just run, was her reply before we both became silent and one with the woods as we raced though them.

Panting I stopped by a small lake, that I had found one day when my wolf side nearly took full control.

I hadn't been in the best mood, the vampire had just moved in, and Ellie was must had been in a worse mood that usually because she was picking at me constantly. Don't blame me, everyone cracks eventually. So I had ran and ran, till I came to this peaceful place, that I had made my own.

No-one seemed to ever come here, because I could never smell any other scent apart from mine and wild animals that lived here before I claimed it as my relaxing spot.

I came here often when I needed to think about anything. It was always so tranquil, and just being around nature made me calm, it's a wolf thing. What was I too do? The other vampires had gone missing. My dreams where still recurring. And my parents and brother where still not telling me what was going on between them. I just wanted to know, was that so bad?

From in the shadows around the lake, a deep voice came, like the one in my dreams.

"Maybe so. Bad things happen to those who put their nose in places they are not wanted."
