"W-When's Mom gonna come back?" Brendon whispered during the last 5 minutes of his session. It was the first thing he'd said to Dr Johnsten in almost 5 days.
"She can't work anymore."
"B-But-" He stammered.
"But nothing. She's not coming back, Brendon."
"I-I need her!"
"She's too sick to be here."
"N-No she's not!"
"Brendon, she can't walk 10 metres without stopping to catch her breath. And that's while connected to an oxygen tank."
Brendon whimpered. He knew he was right, but he didn't want to believe it.
"So she's not coming back to work."
Brendon began crying.
"I know you two are close, and she can come on visitor's day, but she's just too sick Brendon."
"I-I miss her."
"I know. She's getting out of hospital tomorrow, so hopefully she'll be well enough to come on Sunday."
"O-Okay..."
"We just have to wait and see."
Brendon frowned.
"C-Can I g-go visit her?"
"No, you can't."
"B-But she's my Mom!"
"You can't leave here Brendon."
"B-But she's a-alone! S-She needs m-me and I need her!"
"She's perfectly fine, I promise."
"But she's too sick to work so then she's not fine and she needs me!"
"I've been checking up on her for you."
"B-But I n-need to do it!" Brendon cried.
"It'll be okay."
"N-No it won't!"
"It will."
He started to get angry. "MOM NEEDS ME!"
"She's okay Brendon, I promise. Now calm down."
He started sobbing. "B-But I-I need h-her!"
"I know, I know."
"T-Then bring h-her back!"
"I can't."
"Please!"
The doctor just sighed and didn't respond.
Brendon started crying again. He couldn't do this without Mom.
The doctor just wrote on his notepad as Brendon cried.
"L-Let me g-go then!" He sobbed. "S-So I can b-be with her!"
"I can;t."
"P-PLEASE!"
"No!"
Brendon curled up under the coffee table.
The doctor pulled him out from underneath.
"N-NO!"
"Yes. Stop being difficult."
He ran out of the office.
One of the nurse's stopped him and spoke quietly to him.
"H-He's b-being mean t-to me!"
"He's not trying to Brendon."
