Chapter 5-
I texted Declan after school telling him I’ll be home late and that I’m tutoring in the library. Declan ended up hanging out in the library waiting for me and I asked him to get me some new clothes from home. I was tired of wearing these they were sticky from the chocolate milk and it just didn’t look good having a huge brown stain on the front of your shirt. While Declan was gone I waited for Spencer he soon showed up and smiled, “Sorry, I know I’m late I couldn’t find the library.”
I smiled, “It’s fine Spencer take a sit.”
He sat next to me and said, “Thank you again for doing this nobody ever wants to get to know the new kid so I really appreciate it.”
“I understand how it feels to be the new kid.”
“Were you the last new person?”
“No, I was actually eight the last time I was new somewhere.”
“Oh so you’re definitely not new.”
“Yeah I’m not but I understand how it feels to be picked on.”
“How so?”
“Um, the most popular guy here used to be my boyfriend I’m the one who broke up with him and he told everybody that he broke up with me for the head cheerleader who turned him down and he had to settle with the captain of the volleyball team and she’s the schools most popular brat.”
Spencer laughed as if I said a joke and asked, “If you don’t mind telling me why’d you break up with him?”
I looked at the bruise on his face I noticed earlier and said, “I’ll tell you that if you tell me how you got that bruise.”
His hand immediately shot up to his jaw and said, “I didn’t think anyone noticed.”
“Nobody else did you did a very good job at hiding it. I’m just a very detailed person.”
“No I don’t believe that.”
I raised my eyebrows surprised by his statement and he continued, “Something happened to you and now you want to look out for others.”
“Look Spencer it was nice talking to you more but I need to get going maybe we can study some other time.”
I ran off before he could protest. When I got outside Declan was just pulling up to give me my new shirt and I got in the car and he asked, “What happened to your tutoring?”
I groaned and shook my head, “Just drive.”
Declan listened and after a moment asked, “Who were you tutoring?”
“His name’s Spencer he’s new.”
“Why’d you leave so early?”
“I don’t want to talk about it Declan.”
“Too bad come on, Rain, open up.”
“I said I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Rain…” Declan dragged my name out in a whiny tone until I said, “He was getting to personal, okay.”
“How so?”
“Declan I don’t want to talk about it!”
“Well too bad Rain! Come on I hate seeing you like this.”
“Look he just was asking to many questions and I got overwhelmed that’s it nothing more.”
The rest of the car ride home was silent.
