Spencer pulled away from me and I saw Declan’s disappointed face and immediately felt guilt rush through me. “Declan!” I yelled.

I ran away from Spencer I didn’t care if I hurt his feelings at that moment all I cared about was seeing my best friend as he ran as fast as he could away from me. I ran as fast as I could towards Declan but eventually I couldn’t see him anymore and I figured he just needed some time to himself. I walked around town and out of nowhere rain came pouring down. I ran into a coffee shop to stay out of the rain. I waited for about an hour and when I realized the rain wasn’t letting up I decided to continue walking home. Halfway there a dove came right in front of me it looked a lot like the one that was there when I was waking up from well…being dead. It kept chirping at me and flying little by little in front of me. I started to follow it and it led me to a church. I walked inside and walked around the halls and randomly somebody said, “Who are you?”

I jumped and looked back and saw a man and said, “My name is Rain Baxter, I’m sorry a uh- do-uh I found this-”

“A dove led you here?”

            “How did you-?”

He chuckled, “It’s a long story, Miss Baxter that I will tell you later on in life would you like to come into my office.”

“Um, sure, but what is your name?”

He smiled, “Steve Dekker nice to meet you.”

I nodded as I walked inside with him.

I don’t know how long I spent with Mr. Dekker, but when I got home Jenkins was waiting for me in the living room. I looked at him and said, “Hey Jenkins, what’s going on?”

            “Where’ve you been at, Rain?”

“It started raining on my way home. Jenkins I stopped by at a church. It was incredible! I talked to the pastor! He told me that God had like spoken to him and told him I was coming.”

“Rain, that’s amazing and I want to talk to you more about it, but can it be later?”

“What’s wrong?”

“Declan is going through something, Rain, normally he would tell me, but he’s locked himself in his room and I can’t get him to get out.”

“You want me to try and get him out?”

“This is completely out of character for him, but if you don’t want to I understand, but-”

“Relax Jenkins, I’d be happy to.”

I was happy too when I saw Jenkins face relax just from knowing I was doing this. I kissed the top of his head and said, “Goodnight, Jenkins.”

“Thank you Rain.” I heard him whisper.

I walked upstairs and grabbed a pocket knife from my room and got the door open. Declan was sitting on the edge of his bed shaking his head and muttering things to himself. From what I could tell he didn’t notice I was there. I walked towards him and sat down on the bed behind him and wrapped my arms around him. He didn’t even move and I whispered in his ear, “What’s wrong?”

There was a silence for several minutes before he said in an accusing tone, “You kissed him, Rain.”

“He kissed me.”

“You didn’t seem to protest.” He said sadly.

“I didn’t know how to react.”

            “Do you like him?”

“I don’t know.”

            “How can you not know?”

“I just don’t.”

Declan scoffed and I smirked and said, “Hey! You’ve never liked a girl or if you have you’ve never told me! You shouldn’t be the one talking!”

He looked at me and said, “You’re really clueless aren’t you?”

            “What are you talking about?”

Declan let out a big belly laugh and I asked, “What’s so funny?”

            “Nothing, I’ll tell you eventually.”

“No you’ll tell me now.”

            “Rain…”

“I’m staying right here!” I crossed my arms and stayed on his bed. Declan shook his head then walked over to me and easily picked me up and took me to my room and plopped me down on my bed and said, “Nice try Rain, but you’re skinny and easy to carry.”

            “Declan…who do you like?”

He sighed and shook his head as he sat down next to me and said, “I’m scared to tell this girl.”

            “Why?”

“What if she doesn’t like me back?”

“Well…tell me about her.” I hated saying that. I wanted to hear him say my name. But I’ve known for years that Declan would only date a Christian. Once I learned that I knew we were destined to be just friends.

Declan looked at me and smiled as he started talking about her, “She’s the most amazing girl I’ve ever met Rain, she’s beautiful! By beautiful I just mean so gorgeous that it’s insane that she’s not taken. She has this happy genuine personality. Even though she could be so popular she doesn’t care she’s happy to just have a few friends. She’s had a hard life, but she’s grown from it. When I look at her it’s like there’s nobody else in the room…but she seems completely oblivious to that fact.”

“She sounds amazing…” I muttered softly.

“I’ve always wanted to kiss her. To know what those soft lips would feel like against mine. But she’s always considered me as a close friend or even a brother.”

“Tell her the truth.” I said each word even though it was breaking my heart.

Declan shook his head and said, “I don’t know if she’s ready for it yet. Oh well, goodnight Rain.”

He kissed my forehead and left my room. I sat there alone in the dark touching my lips-starting to wonder what it would be like to kiss Declan. Then I remembered what it was like kissing Spencer. It seemed so forced like we were trying to force something to be there. My phone rang and I looked down and answered, "Hello?"

            "Hey Rain, it's me Spencer."
