I gasped as darkness surrounded me, and I gnashed my teeth together because of the pain. It’s like a burning pit of fire. What could this be? Am I being burned alive? I looked, and all I saw was darkness. I could hear other people’s screams. I screamed myself because of the pain and from the fear. What could this be? Am I dead?
And, then I realized…I’m in hell!
“Clear!” I heard someone yell as I felt a jolt charge through my body. I thought to myself, “Come on body, wake up.” I saw a bright light but then I saw the most bizarre thing, I saw a dove coming through the light as if it was going to help me. I woke up with a moan as medical personnel tried to get my blood pressure back to normal.
By the next day I was in a hospital room aware that I had been in a car accident and that Bruce had hit the car. I was told it was a hit and run and there was no evidence of who hit me. Declan was in the room with me and I looked at him and said, “I died and came back…how is that possible?”
“God’s giving you a second chance.”
“But why, Declan? What did I do to deserve that?”
Declan said, “God didn’t give you a second chance because you deserve it, Rain, He gave it to you because He wants you to have it. He must have plans for you.”
The truth is - I didn’t even know if I believed in God! Declan asked me, “Did you go to heaven or hell?” But, he could tell by the look on my face – I had not gone to heaven. He told me, “You know, it’s your choice whether or not to believe, Rain.”
Soon after, Declan left me in the hospital to go to church; I was left alone with my thoughts. The only thing I could think about was that dove, second chances, and what it all meant.
