Prologue

Y/N
You never enjoyed it when people would praise you. They made you sound stuck up and everyone would turn out to hate you in the end.
All the adults would praise you- how you graduated college two years before others, how you were already employed as a doctor and lived alone with a friend. For this reason, not many people liked you. I mean, you tried your best to hide this fact, but mostly everyone from your town knew about you. Y/N.
You received a lot of love from the adults but barely any from the people about your age. That's why you wanted to move to the bustling city of Gangnam, instead of living in this straight up hell of a place called Daegu. Not that Daegu itself was horrible, just the people there were... not so nice.
This was your biggest dream yet- but there was one thing that everyone under 21 has always awaited for. The day they would be match made, or the classic way of saying it, their 21st birthday.
The society you lived in had no specific name. It was only known because of one skill. Match making. No records of divorce or any conflict in general. Everyone who had experienced this seemed happy, their eyes filled with love and happiness whenever they were around their matched soulmates, which were made by the Match Making Association. The biggest association in the society.
So instinctively, you thought everything would go perfect with you as well. As long as your match wasn't from Daegu, everything was going to be fine. Everyone around you thought that you would end up well with your match, or at least that's what the adults thought.
But every story can't have a sweet ride, and this one can't either.

You squirmed in bed as your best friend Iseul tried her best to wake you up.
"Wake up! I seriously can't think of how your match is ever going to love you if you wake up at 2 in the afternoon, not even thinking of breakfast or lunch!" Iseul yelled as she uncovered the blanket.
"Stop nagging~" You whined in annoyance, "Look at you. Hyunwoo loves you, and yet you're imperfect, so I'm pretty sure I would find a great match... well the association will." You groaned at the only person that ever cared about you, excluding your parents that is.
"Rude~ Let's go out and shop or something! I'm so bored! And your 21st birthday is coming up! You're soon going to be match made so you better get your lazy-"
You interrupted her by forcefully pushing her and heading to the bathroom to wash up, "No cursing first thing in the morning."
She covered her forehead in pain and furrowed her eyebrows at you, "It's the afternoon idiot!"

After having a late lunch outside at a cafe, you decided to shop with Iseul, just like what she asked for.
You mostly bought black clothing while Iseul bought a whole assortment of colored ones.
Afterwards, you guys went to the park and ate ice cream while on the swings. Leaving your shopping bags on a bench nearby, you left to go ride together with Iseul.
"You shouldn't just leave it there. Someone might steal it." Iseul said worriedly while riding on the swing already.
"Same goes for you. Yours is next to the swing post." You say while scoffing.
"But it's closer to me unlike yours which is several feet away." She said, eyeing the shopping bags the whole time.
"Don't worry~" You said while closing your eyes and feeling the refreshing autumn wind sway your hair and swing around.
Suddenly, Iseul shrieked and started to panic. You opened your eyes to look over at Iseul now frantically trying to get off the swing.
"What's wrong?" You said calmly while eating the last part of the cone.
She said nothing but just pointed over to where you had left your shopping bags. To your surprise, they weren't there anymore. Instead, you found a man running swiftly out of the park carrying the bags.
Only seeing him for a second, you could already tell that he was decent and had ink black hair with sugar white skin. He wore black ripped jeans and an oversized navy sweater with black puma sneakers.
"What the fuck? What man steals girls clothes?" You shrug.
Iseul glowered in anger, "You can't just let him go! I told you to place yours closer."
By this time, Iseul was already off the swing and picking up her shopping bags. She signaled for you to get off. You did as told and both of you walked back home in silence.
