1 WEEK LATER
MIKE
"Here you go, Mr Fuentes, these are the keys to your new home, I hope you and your family are very happy here."
The realtor drops the keys in my hand before walking out of the front door. Tony, Lily and I finally had a place to call our own. We'd been looking at apartments, but the one small house we looked at Tony fell in love with because it had a back garden Lily could play in. The house was a little out of our price range, but Vic bought out my half of the house so I was able to afford this place without telling Tony or Lily wanting it to be a surprise.
Jaime knew I was buying the house because it was his job to keep Tony and Lily occupied. He was going to be dropping them off in around ten minutes so I wanted to be stood outside ready to surprise them. Soon the house would be filled with our furniture and we could start making family memories with Lily.
The neighbourhood looked nice, I just hoped the neighbours were okay with a gay couple and their adopted daughter moving in because nowadays some people were snotty and degrading.
Jaime's car pulls up outside the house and I can see he'd blindfolded both Tony and Lily. He gets out of the car and helps Tony while I unbuckle Lily from her seat and hold her on my hip.
"Hey, baby girl."
"Hello, dad."
Lily snuggles against me and I chuckle and stroke her hair.
"Mike, why are we blindfolded?"
Tony was cute when he sounded frustrated, he hated being blindfolded preferring to know what was going on.
"Take off your blindfold, and say hello to our new home."
I take off Lily's while Jaime takes off Tony's having tied it too tightly. Tony's eyes widen and his jaw drops as he stares at the house in front of him.
"Is this some sort of sick joke Mike? We can't afford this place."
I laugh and hand our daughter over, "Vic bought my half of the house so I was able to get this for us. Do you like it?"
Lily giggles and gives me a thumbs up, "I like it."
Tony smiles, "of course I do Mike, damn I got myself a good boyfriend."
I lean down and peck his lips making Lily gag, Tony blushes and Jaime swoops in taking Lily and starts carrying her up the drive.
Once the two of them were out of sight I stand behind Tony and wrap my arms around his waist, "we now have a place to call our own and make memories with our daughter."
Tony leans back against my chest, "we really are a proper family Mike. This day can't get any more perfect."
"Excuse me but are you the new neighbours?"
A woman clears her throat next to us and the two of us jump apart, but Tony holds my hand waiting for the woman in front of us to judge our lifestyle and appearance.
"Hi, I'm Mike and this is my boyfriend Tony. Our daughter Lily is in the house with a friend. This looks like a nice neighbourhood."
The woman smiles a genuine warm smile, "you don't need to look terrified Tony no one here is going to judge you, well at least not my family since we have a gay daughter. How rude of me you can call me Lynn, my wife Jenna is out at work and our teenage daughter Tay is out causing mischief."
Tony lets out the breath he'd been holding and loosens his death grip on my hand, "nice to meet you, Lynn, I hope we can become friends in the near future."
Lynn smiles, "well we live literally opposite you so come over whenever you like. Goodbye."
We watch her walk across the road towards her house. Then Tony stands on his tip toes and pecks my cheek.
"Let's go and find our daughter and Jaime before Jaime ruins the place."
Swinging our hands, we make our way towards the house where we could hear Lily giggling loudly after a crash and Jaime groaning. Maybe Tony was right about Jaime destroying the place before we'd even moved in all the furniture.
Walking into the main room we see a knocked over box, Jaime sprawled on the floor, with Lily sat on top of him smiling triumphantly. Lily looked like she was having a blast. Tony lets go of my hand and crouches down in front of our daughter.
"Ah, Jaime letting yourself get beat by a little girl."
He high-fives Lily before picking her up. I help Jaime back up and he scowls at the knocked over box.
"Who leaves boxes lying around?"
I snort, "err Jaime when you move there are going to be boxes, you just need to watch where you're going next time buddy."
"Yeah, buddy."
Lily was too precious today.
"Well I'm going to leave the happy family, but I'll be back later with your house warming gift. Bye princess."
Jaime kisses Lily sloppily on the cheek before skipping out of the house. Tony makes sure to lock the front door, we didn't want Jaime coming back in well at least until later tonight.
"Daddy, can we see my room please?"
"Yes, we can panda."
Tony carries Lily out of the room, she was going to have so much fun when it came to decorating and making the room her own. There were still bad memories Lily had attached to bedrooms after Vic hit her, and since at Tony and Jaime's she slept in our bed it might take her a few nights to get use to sleeping in her own bed.
TONY
"There is so much room for activities daddy."
Lily starts running around in circles like a mad man since there was no furniture around. I lean against the doorframe and get out my phone and start to record her, this was social media gold.
"Stop filming our daughter Tony, you're becoming one of 'those' dads."
Mike sneaks up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist making me jump slightly. I continue filming, I wanted to be one of those dads who doted on their daughter and it couldn't hurt to have footage to show on her eighteenth birthday and wedding day.
