Sincere

Apart of me getting my act together was to stop depending on no good boys to take care of me. I knew I was really gonna have to change this once Victoria and I were on our own. So, I went back to school and got myself a Cosmetology license. And since I've been such a good customer to Tina's Hair and Beauty for as long as I can remember there was no reason why Tina couldn't give me the job, once she fired her trifling employee.
I smiled, and after clocking in, made my way back to my station that was right next to Dawn's and across from Charmaine's, who was all into his nails. "Hey bae!" I sang brushing past Dawn's shoulder. "What's up Sin?" I sat my bags down at my station and took a seat in my chair as I scooted over to Dawn who was doing the exact same thing.
"Not much." "How's my baby?" She asked referring to Victoria, who was over Effrin's Mama's house today. It was my day to watch her but she knew about me working so she and her husband, Lester, decided on watching her and spending time with her after she got out of tutoring that ran until 12 this afternoon. I smiled. "Victoria's fine, just talking like about seeing Hazel like always." "Tori can come over this weekend if she wants to. I know it'll give you and Mr. Burke some alone time."
I laughed. "We need no alone time D. He's gonna be across the country in Florida for a game this weekend so there's no way he'll be able to make it back." She fake sighed and put a smile on her face. "Well how about you and Effrin hang out?" She asked saying the unthinkable. I don't know what it was with her trying to get Effrin and I together. Maybe it was Jason, Effrin's closest friend, who was spreading meaningless bullshit to her mind but there was no way in hell Effrin and I were spending time together, unless it was for Victoria.
"Hell no! Are you crazy?" I semi-yelled. "Maybe everybody is finally starting to realize what I've been saying all of these years. The bitch has been inhaling too many chemicals up in this shop," Charmaine said, strutting up to us with his Ray Bands on his face and Louis from head to toe. Dawn rolled her eyes. "You awoke the beast. Thanks a lot Sincere," She said moving back to her station.
I laughed. "Y'all don't need to start all of that fighting today." Charmaine waved me off and walked over to his station, the two of them ignoring my pleas for them to get along. I know deep down the two of them get along, they're just afraid to admit their feelings towards each other. I rolled my chair back over to my station only to bump into a client of mine. I looked up and saw Kay. I took a deep breath, only trying to behave myself since I was at work.
"What's up? What are you doing here?" I asked standing up.
She took a seat in the chair. "I need my hair down. King said I could come here to get it done, especially if I specifically asked for you to do it, he knew I'd be fly. I just need a press and curl. Can you do that for me?" She asked looking at me through the mirror as I laid my things out. I didn't bother saying anything to her. I just nodded my head, yes.
Who did Effrin think he was telling his ugly hoes about my job? I didn't mind the business I was getting but it was the type of business I was getting that I didn't like. I didn't need people like Kay coming to get their hair done by me. They can go around the corner to the other shop but it's whatever. Business is business and I was taking her money to support my daughter and I.
I took her over to the sinks and washed out her hair as I kept quiet. I wasn't going to speak to her and I hoped she wasn't going to try speaking to me. I think it would have been best if the two of us just shut our mouths so things would go by quicker. She closed her eyes as I leaned her head further back in the sink, rinsing out the shampoo in her hair. After conditioning her hair I took her back over to my station and began blow drying her hair.
