Amanda Palmer is a pioneer in arts. She is a performer, a musician, a writer who managed to connect with her audience and become independent from major music labels and go on creating art depending on her tribe of fans who support her financially on patreon.
Despite the fact that writers can hardly get the support they wish for on patren and similar platforms this is a great example of how asking for help and support from other writers and readers can make the change and take you further than you can think of.
Support your fellow writers and they will support you back as long as you master the art of asking.
Don't be rude, even if someone's work is not your cup of tea, it includes a part of someone's heart. Don't crush it.
Don't demand. Nobody is oblidged to read your story. Nobody has to caress your ego. Ask for feedback nicely to become better, not likes to pet your vanity.
Be gentle, be generous, be kind and people will surprise you with their will to help you.
PS As Catherine reminded me, the speech was turned into a book afterwards aka"The art of asking" ( you can find it online or at your local bookstore). There is an audiobook version as well. Search for it as a paperbook online, an ebook, whatever form you like and you can always follow Amanda Palmer on social media or become her patreon and learn more from her experience
