I could feel my chest tighten and I felt like I was suffocating. I stumbled back a little bit, holding a hand over my now very quickly beating heart.
Undyne backed off, giving Sans a strange look before walking off, glancing over her shoulder before leaving.
As Sans turned to look at me I felt myself begin to hyperventilate, despite that not happening in centuries. He summoned the massive scythe that I had only seen once before, his eye lighting up a dangerous light blue.
"I-I--"
"Why are you down here?" He raised his voice, making me flinch a little bit.
"Because the Demi-Gods, we were worried. S-Something seemed off and--"
"You are Demi-Gods! You are not to enter the realm of Gods, especially when most of those only bring disdain and death! You are not safe down here. You should not have come down here, and now. . . Since you have seen the state of our realm. . . I-I have to kill you. . ."
He hoisted the scythe and I closed my eyes.
"I-It's okay, I-I understand."
I waited for the world to go, for me to wake up elsewhere without knowing that I was waking up to a different life. I waited for a short moment of pain, or a long moment of pain. But nothing happened.
I opened my eyes and saw that he was still positioned but he was shaking.
He sighed and the scythe disappeared.
"W-What's wrong?" I ask.
"I-I can't do it." He whispers as if he's ashamed of it.
I swallow my gasp, "W-What? Why?"
"Because I-I know that you deserve mercy a-and. . . I-I just. . . There's something about you, that I can't place, b-but that I know this world can't live without. . . T-That I would miss. . ."
I felt my face heat up a bit as I blush. What did he mean by that?
"You can't do it, huh?" I jump as someone suddenly appears beside me.
I almost fall over as I see who it is.
"Chara?" My eyes widen.
"Frisk! What are you doing down here? Aren't you supposed to be hiding in your realm, with the other cowards?"
"Chara, what do you want?" Sans shouts, suddenly very angry.
"I just wanted to check up on my pals!" She slung an arm around me, making me shiver.
I pushed away from her grip, "Why do you care?"
She laughed, the one that made all of us scared when we were at school, "A friend can't be worried?"
"We are not friends, Chara. You tried to kill one of our friends!"
"That's what I was supposed to do! People aren't supposed to live forever and besides, she should've paid for her sins."
I saw Sans tense a little bit.
"What sins? No one sinful can become a Demi-God!"
"You say, as you talk to me," Chara's tone darkened.
"Leave now, Chara. You don't want me killing you after your overdue death. You would not go to live on in the afterlife." Sans threatened, his eye daring to activate.
"That's why I just dropped in. You can't kill me if I'm not here." She grinned at him smugly.
"I will kill you one day, Chara if it is the last thing I do." Sans shot back.
She laughed again, "Sounds good. See you then, comedian."
Her body swirled into strange black dust as she laughed, the dust blowing away, her laughter fading as it did.
Sans looked at it as it blew away, sighing afterward.
"All you seem to bring is trouble." He borderline glared at me.
"I. . . I didn't mean to. . ." I looked down, feeling guilty.
"That doesn't matter, Frisk! You came down here, and then everything went to hell! Or even more that it was before! I just--The sooner you are gone the sooner everything can fix itself."
I stayed silent, willing myself not to cry. This was all my fault. If I had just stayed put maybe it would have been okay, or if someone else had come. But I was so determined to fix things and--It doesn't matter.
"How do I get out of here?" I ask him, my voice as small as I felt.
"Someone dies."
