Vengeance

Lexi couldn't help her soft sobs as they drove home. Taking a tissue and dabbing her eyes, she tried to stop but she just couldn't. Looking at Daryl as he pulled the truck over, she sniffed and tried to dry her tears as she turned back to look out the passenger window.

"Lexi, look at me" Daryl said softly.

"I c-c-can't" Lexi said, feeling fresh tears roll down her cheeks.

"Lexi please" Daryl said, softly grabbing her arm.

Looking at Daryl, she couldn't help herself as she threw herself at him, sobbing again.

"W-w-what are we going to d-d-do?" Lexi said barely able to breath or talk from crying so much.

"We are going to go home and have a great dinner and have fun with our son. Lexi she's not getting him, she's not. No matter if we have to leave and disappear and make a life somewhere else, we will. Besides, Sarah doesn't want Luke, not really. She had something else up her sleeve, I just don't know what that is yet. I'm guessing it's still about money." Daryl said, trying to calm her down. "C'mere"

Lexi closed her eyes as he wrapped his arms around her as she clung to his body.

"I just don't understand" Lexi whispered "Why did the judge grant her bail? She kidnapped Luke!"

Daryl signed and wiped her tear away with his thumb.

"I don't know baby, I wonder with her attorney talking about a custody suit they were trying to make it like it was more of a custody issue than a crime" Daryl said softly, kissing her lips. "We'll get through this....we will"

"I'm sorry Daryl, here I am a basket case and he's not even my son. You shouldn't have to be worrying about me and my meltdown, you have a lot more things to think about" Lexi said full of sorrow.

"You need to get used to something, he's our son....OUR son. It doesn't matter what she wants or says she's going to do, we're still going through with our plans. We're buying a new house, we're getting married and you're still adopting Luke, end of story" Daryl said grabbing her chin and making her look into his eyes.

"Speaking of the house, I found a couple we might want to check out...I was looking online" Lexi said softly as Daryl began driving the truck again.

"That's my girl" Daryl smiled, putting his arm around her, pulling her to his side of the truck. "You can show me when we get home and I'll call Jimmy and have him set up a showing"

"Okay" Lexi said thinking "Daryl do you think we should get married now? Do you think it would look better for the courts if we were married?"

"Lexi, if you really wanted to get married, I would turn this truck around and take you right back to the courthouse and have one of the judges perform the ceremony, but you don't, at least not for you. Honey I appreciate you trying to help but we're going to be fine. I love the idea of marrying you on the day we met and I want to keep that plan." Daryl said, hoping she would relax a little.

"Okay" Lexi said, snuggling next to him. "I took a whole chicken out to make roasted chicken tonight, Luke asked me to"

"Good choice by him, I could definitely go for some chicken" Daryl smiled, giving her a kiss.

Looking at Lexi who seemed more at ease, Daryl let his mind drift back to the courtroom and felt his heart break all over again. He wanted to break down and cry right along with Lexi but he knew he had to hold it together for both of them. He also knew that under no circumstances did Sarah want Luke, she told him straight up when he gave her the money that she just didn't have it in her to be a mom, so what was she playing at? Was it still money? Was it just to hurt him? He wasn't sure of anything anymore except for knowing he had to contact his attorney as soon as possible to find out what they would do next. Pulling into his parents driveway, Lexi and Daryl looked at each other and then at Luke who was tearing out of the house and running towards them with a huge smile.
