Chapter 6

“Hey Babe you home?”

“Um… not exactly…” my voice cracks under pressure.

“What? You aren’t talking and driving are you?”

“No… can you come…um pick me up?”

“Why?”

“Will please just come…” I tell him where I am and get back in my car. I hear tires and then a door closing next thing I know Will is standing at my door.

“What’s wrong?” he mouths to me when he realizes I won’t open the door. I jerk my head back and point with my eyes hoping he understands. If I move any more than that I will be stabbed. His eyes widen when he realizes what I’m gesturing about. He opens my door and grabs the man’s wrist that is holding the knife and twists it till he releases the weapon. I jump out of the car and hide behind him. He pulls the guy out of my car and drags him over to my trunk where he slams the man’s body into the car holding his arms behind his back.

“Police are on their way” “Please don’t dent my car” I say as I stay cowering behind Will. He rolls his eyes and I know he thinks it’s a dumb thing to say; well I like my car as it is with no scratches or dents. When the man is taken away Will pulls me over to the nearby bench.

“What happened?”

“I stopped to get what I needed to fix dinner and then when I came back to my car the guy pulled his knife out on me. He wanted all my money and for me to drive him wherever he needed to go. So I told him I needed to call my bank and have my savings account wired to my checking’s account, that’s when he got in the car and I called you.”

“You are smart and lucky he didn’t figure out what you did”

“I’m lucky I have you to come rescue me” he shakes his head and kisses me briefly.

“Shouldn’t you be getting home?”

“My parents are out of town… which is another reason I needed to stop at the store so I had food plus I needed a new raft for my pool.”

“Out of town… well then I am coming over to make sure you are safe and sound.” I wasn’t going to argue with that…
