All anyone in the home could hear was the pitter-patter of rain hitting the roof, and the thunder that sounded loudly above.
"The Gods must be angry today." Max raised his head to look at his mother, who seemed to be in her own little world, staring out the house's singular window. His sister, who was washing some dishes, let out a snort.
"I don't understand why you always ramble on about the Gods and Notch and all of those things. None of them are real." Max watched his mother stiffen slightly and he rolled his eyes. Here we go again...
"And how can you be so sure?"
"For all we know, the Gods are sitting around, complaining about how annoying Shelby Zion is." Max piped up with a mocking tone and a teasing twinkle in his eyes. The long-haired brunette at the tub smirked as she finished her job. She flicked some of the water on her hands at Max as she sat down at the table across from their mother. He flinched back as the cold droplets hit his skin. He fixed her with a glare and she smiled innocently. She looked back at her mother.
"Because if they were real, wouldn't someone have seen them? Or at least heard their voices?" She paused for a moment. "I know! Maybe Max is secretly a prophet that can tell us about these "Gods"!" Shelby spoke in a sarcastic tone, and their mother snorted. Max rolled his eyes and flicked his sister off under the table.
"Nothing is that simple Shelby. One day you'll realize that--" Loud knocking echoed throughout the home. Max stood up to get it, but his sister was already up and halfway to the door. He followed Shelby at a slower pace and noticed her frown when she opened the door.
"Oh, hey Ross." She sounded a bit cheery, as though she hadn't been arguing with her mother moments before. She opened the door wider as Max and approached. "It's for you." Shelby turned and walked back over to the table with their mother, though the arguing had stopped, and Max's sister seemed to be listening in on the conversation the two would have.
Max's gaze met his best friend . The curly haired brunette had his sword at his side and he motioned for Max to grab his, which sat up against the wall a few feet into the house.
"What's up?" He already had an idea of "what's up", but he still decided to ask, and he was glad he did, for his friends reply was not the normal "patrol" or "training", but something that sent a chill up Max's spine.
"Big execution. Two sorcerers by the names of Seto Sori and Tyler Lox."
