The ginger shivered a little as rain cascaded down onto the small group of soldiers. General Sharp stood in front, unaffected.

"Don't forget that you are only there to protect the authority. If our plan works, then we should have a few visitors." Max heard a few murmurs beside him and out of the corner of his eye he could see Hughes and Bac chattering like birds. The general shot them a glare, but continued on.

"Anyone who disobeys orders and loses us the prize will face punishment, so I advise you all to be alert and ready." Sharp stopped pacing in front of the two. "So shut up and listen to my orders!" Mitch flinched slightly, but Jerome held his ground, though you could see the fear flash in his eyes for a moment.

The General rolled his eyes and turned to Solace, who stood to Max's far right at the end of the line. "You're in charge of these two, and take Zion with you. You four will keep the crowd at bay while the execution is going on."

Solace nodded, hesitance flashing in his eyes. "Yes General."

Max let out a silent groan. Solace wasn't one to lead--he wasn't even one to follow. Rather, he was one to cower. Sure, he wasn't a coward all the time, but his parents were healers and he hated blood--he'd only joined the royal army because it was required.

General Sharp continued down the line, giving everyone their jobs, before sending everyone off to do them.

As Solace walked past him he accidentally bumped into Max, unbalancing him a little. Max stumbled for a moment before regaining his footing. He fixed the passing boy with a glare as Solace made his way over to Mitch and Jerome.

"Come on, we need to get to the square." He didn't glance back at me before speaking again. "Cadets."

-------

It was eerily silent as people filed into the square. He narrowed his eyes against the drizzle as he stared out across the wave of people. He glanced over to his right and saw Mitch, standing tall with a slightly cocky look on his face.

Max rolled his eyes a little and shivered as the cold metal of his sword bit through his pants and chilled his leg.

"Welcome, citizens of the great capital of Requiea! Today we stand here for the execution of two of our nations most wanted sorcerers. Seto Sori and Tyler Lox!" As the official spoke, Max watched as two men were dragged through the middle of the crowd, people scrambling out of the way as they passed.

Sori? He recognized that name. Before the attack on the Queen and her brother, the Sori family had been the Royal wizards of the castle. He had thought that he heard that they had all been killed, but that rumor was now proved to be false.

As they got closer Max was able to see that one was a man, about his own age, maybe a little bit older. The other was a child, about 13 or 14, who had wings and a tail as dark as the night sky. The child was unconscious, being dragged roughly by a soldier, while the man stumbled as he was shoved forward, hands tied behind his back and a cloth over his mouth. The boy had similar restrictions, but his tail was tied to his right leg, and his wings were bound tightly together.

Max noticed someone wince in the front of the crowd and he turned a little to get a look at them. They had a hood up, so he was unable to see their face, but he could see the a small ponytail peeking out from the bottom corner of the hood. He was a tiny bit taller than those around him, but that was all Max could get from it.

'I'll just keep an eye on them for now...' He heard mumbling from above him as ropes were tied around the prisoners necks. Max heard a moan from the younger one.

"Any last words before you are executed for your crimes?" The official sneered, hand already placed on the lever that would end their lives.

"Yeah!" Max heard a hoarse snarl from above and he glanced back to see that the boy had regained consciousness enough to somewhat understand what was going on, though his words were slurred together as though he were drunk. "Kiss. My. Ass!" There were a few surprised tones from the stage and a few chuckles from the people. He heard a sharp cry of outrage from the official. A click sounded around the clearing as the lever was flipped, and then the scraping of wood as it fell away, leaving the sorcerers dangling.

"Ack!" One let out a small choking sound. Max closed his eyes for a moment. He hated executions, and this was why.

Suddenly he heard something that sounded like electricity buzzing through the air and he opened his eyes in time to see a golden lightning bolt fly right above his head.

So what do you all think? Is it ok so far?

Btw this may be a hint, but go back to the AN at the beginning of the story, theres a character there who was not there before.
