"Caroline, come here." Liz called, pressing her lips together as she waited for her daughter to come down the steps. Liz had two suitcases in her hands as Caroline rounded the corner.

"What is it mom?" Caroline asked, tilting her head to the side before twirling her daylight ring around her finger.

"You're going to take a couple days off school. I need you to come with me to Brooklyn. I need you to see someone. I'll explain it all on the way. I took a couple days off for this because this is very important to me." Liz continued, walking up to the vampire girl and holding her hands.

"Ok. Are you ok? Because if I can help in any way I will. Just ask." Caroline said softly, looking between her mom and suitcases.

"No, no. I'm fine. I'm totally fine. It's just we really need to go now, and I promise I'll explain everything in the car." Liz continued and grabbed a suitcase and handed one to Caroline.

Once in the car, the two sat as the car rumbled softly beneath them as they began to drive down a highway.

"Caroline, I need to explain a lot of things that happened before you were born. So just listen to me please." Liz said as she kept her eyes on the road but moved one of her hands to grip her daughters.

"Alright. Go ahead." Caroline said softly.

"A year before you were born, I used to live in Brooklyn. I was a shadowhunter. Nephilim if you will, but I hunted demons. I used to be a band of shadowhunters called The Circle. They went rouge by being led by an insane man named Valentine. Two or three families were able to avoid consequences from the Shadowhunter Goverment, the Clave. After the uprising, I found out I was pregnant. The father had died during the battle and I was left all alone. The Lightwood's befriended me and made sure the baby and I were safe. Months later a baby girl was born. Scarlett. I raised her for seven years without knowing the inked hunters. I hid all my runes and raised her as a normal
Mundane for as long as I could. Valentine was rumoured to be seen again and I couldn't let Scarlett get into unknown trouble with Valentine. So I did what I avoided for seven years. I sent her to the institute. She is still alive, well, healthy. Scarlett is with Alec, Isabelle, and Jace. The children of the Lightwood's. Except for Jace." Liz explained throughout the time of them driving there.

Caroline was speechless. Her mother had a secret, secret family before she as born. Liz hunted things like herself. She couldn't believe she had a sister.

"We're going to go see her, and then Maryse."

And so they did. They went, they saw the blonde haired woman; black runes littering the girl's skin with her three best friends crossing the street. She cheeks a slight rose colour, her hair up and bare foot in New York. She was a brave one.

After seeing Scarlett, Liz showed Caroline around the city a bit before heading to the church where Maryse would meet them. "Caroline, Maryse is a very intimidating woman ok? Don't be threatened and or offended if she calls you anything." Liz explained as the waited at the edge of the property line, making sure Caroline wouldn't trigger the alarms.

As Maryse walked out, her figure strong and out there she came to stop in front of Liz.

"Oh my." Maryse exhaled as she studied her long time friend. Liz had aged. Lines at the corners of her mouth, creases between her brows and her skin didn't have the same glow it used to.

"This must be Caroline." Maryse mumbled softly as she turned to look at Liz's second daughter.

"Yes. She's a wonderful girl Maryse. She wouldn't harm a living human." Liz defended her daughter and smiled at the woman standing in front of the two.
