Chapter Two

Lauren’s Point Of View:

What?! No.. It can’t be. Sarah! She’s only twelve and this is her first time being put into the games. I could barely breathe. I wasn’t going to let my little sister compete in the games! I looked over where all the kids where separating from her and then she started to walk to the stage. The peacekeepers forming a box around her

‘Sarah!’ I didn’t have to barge through the crowd they all separated as I shouted.

I tried to get to Sarah but two peacekeepers stood in front of me blocking me getting to her.

‘I volunteer’ I shouted as I broke through the peacekeepers in front of me. ‘I volunteer as tribute’

‘Okay, Lovely’ said Effie.

Sarah hugged me tightly. I wasn’t going to let my little sister go and get killed at these games. Maybe I would be killed. Who knows..

Sarah wouldn’t let go and was pulled off by Naks who gave me a worried look at she brought Sarah screaming over to my mum. 

I walked up to the stage.

Effie looked at me and asked ‘What is your name?’

‘Lauren Larkin’ I replied in a quiet tone.

‘I’m taking that; the little one is your sister’

‘Yes it is’

‘Well, let’s give a round of applause to district 12’s first volunteer tribute’ Effie was the only one who clapped and a silence etched across the square. Then something happened, at one then the rest of the crowd touched their three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and held it out to me. It means to say goodbye to someone you love. All I could do was gulp and stare out into the crowd.

Note: All the One Direction boys are 17 in this.

Liam’s Point Of View:

‘She looks terrified’ I whispered to Louis who was standing next to me.

‘I wouldn’t blame her’ He whispered back.

‘What?’ Niall on the other side of me whispered.

‘I just said to Louis, that she looks terrified’

‘I know, She’s brave volunteering herself for her sister’ he whispered.

Zayn who was standing glancing back at Naks, Lauren’s best friend nodded.

‘Now the boys’ Effie said into the microphone. She walked over to the glass bowl again with the boy’s names in it. She reached in and took out the piece of paper. She walked back over to the microphone, opened the piece of paper. I wished and hoped it wasn’t me.

‘Liam Payne’ she said.

I looked at the lads and gulped. They exchanged worried looks with me. The rest of the boys all moved out of my way and I started to walk up to the stage where Effie and Lauren were. I couldn’t really swallow now. I felt like running away but I couldn’t. I walked up and stood on the other side of Effie.

Effie told us to shake hands with each other, I knew Lauren from school and another time before. She lived near the edge of the Seam, while I lived in the town. I shook her hand given it a bit of a squeeze. She looked at me and our eyes met. She looked away instantly.

I looked away also then the peacekeepers took us into custody inside the Justice building.
