He wrapped an arm around his girlfriend. He knew it was to happen at one point or the next; what with her smarts and his music career.

She was to go to college the next day. He knew what he had to do for the both of them. As much as he loved her, he knew that their relationship had to come to an end. It would be best for both of them.

So you leave tomorrow, to sleep the night,

Promise I will make things make things right.

I'll make you breakfast the way you like

Before you leave tomorrow, just let me try.

"I'm going to miss you," she whispered, her voice tired and soft.

He kissed her forehead once and tightened his arm around her. "I'm going to miss you, too."

"I'll be sure to visit on holidays," she promised.

Before you leave tomorrow

Before you say goodbye

Before you leave tomorrow

Before you leave.

He bit his lip to keep from crying. "I'd like that."

She rested her chin on his shoulder. "Is there something wrong? What is it? Please, darling, tell me."

Stay here and lay here right in my arms.

It's only a moment before you're gone,

And I am keeping you warm, just act like you love me so I can go on.

And act like you love me so I can go on.

He sighed and turned to face her. "Princess, you know I love you, right?"

She nodded, furrowing her eyebrows. "Of course I do. Why?"

He examined her features in the dark moonlight. Her wavy hair, her blue eyes, her nose with dents on it from her glasses, her cheeks, her ears, and her lips. He took in a deep breath before finding her eyes again. Biting his lip once more, he said, "I don't think that we should stay together."

Just one more night, lying in bed,

Whether it's wrong or right, just got to make sense of it.

And you'll be gone in the morning, and you'll be over this.

Just one more night, so I can pretend.

Her eyes filled with tears, "W-what? Why?" She sat up, her breathing uneven, almost hyperventilating.

"I think that it's best for both of us, darling," he sat up next to her. He could tell by her breathing that she was crying.

"Just because I'm going away? I'll stay! I'll stay for you! I'll come back every day!"

"You can't drive from here to Ohio every day, love," he whispered, rubbing her back. "I promise you, the last thing that I want to do is to break up with you."

"Then why?" She leaned into his arm, pressing her cheek against his chest. He didn't stop rubbing the comforting circles on her back as she sobbed into his chest. He loved her dearly. He didn't know how he'd be able to let her go.

Stay here and lay here right in my arms.

It's only a moment before you're gone

And I am keeping you warm, just act like you love me so I can go on.

And act like you love me so I can go on.

"It'll be easier when I can't see you for a while. We both have lives to live, darling, and I don't want to keep you from yours."

She sobbed harder into his chest. She knew he was right: It would be easier. However, easier wasn't as good as harder was. She just chose not to argue with him. She truly did know that he didn't want to do it either.

"I'm so sorry, darling," he whispered, laying back down. He played with her soft, wavy locks until she fell asleep on him. He fell asleep soon after, knowing that it would be the final time he'd see her.

When you go, I can't watch you leave.

Just promise me you'll sneak out

When I'm asleep.

She hadn't really fallen asleep. She could do plenty of that on the plane.

Carefully and slowly, she got out of his arms. Her ticket had informed her that she had an early flight to Ohio. A flight at seven in the morning. It was about two-fifty in the morning when she grabbed her suitcase and her carry-on from the closet and checked it for everything, making sure that she had her essentials.

Hesitantly, she walked back to the closet and pulled out one of his hoodies that were three-sizes-too-large for her before turning off the bedroom light. She was surprised that he hadn't stirred, but also grateful.

Hesitating, she walked back over to the sleeping boy. She pressed her lips against his forehead, lingering there for half a minute before pulling away. She wiped away the tears on her cheeks and the tears that fell on his forehead before leaving and boarding an early bus, leaving the house behind.

When you go, and you're miles down the road,

I wake up wishing everything was just a dream.

He woke up, sun streaming in his eyes. He felt the bed beside him only to find a cold sheet. She was gone, he realized. It felt like an invisible hand reached into his body and clenched its fingers around his heart, squeezing it and twisting it.

He sat up, rubbing his eyes. He looked in his closet for the appropriate "I-am-going-to-stay-inside-and-eat-Ben-&-Jerry's-ice-cream-all-day-and-binge-on-Friends" outfit. He looked for his favorite hoodie, but only found an empty hanger in its place.

Stay here and lay here right in my arms.

It's only a moment before you're gone

And I am keeping you warm, just act like you love me so I can go on.

And act like you love me so I can go on.

He keeled over, suddenly out of breath. He dropped to his knees, the pain finally settling in. He finally cried. He sobbed, actually. While she was probably just landing in Ohio, here he was, sobbing his eyes out on his bedroom floor.

Stay here and lay here right in my arms.

It's only a moment before you're gone

And I am keeping you warm, just act like you love me so I can go on.

And act like you love me so I can go on.

"Just act like you love me so I can go on," he whispered into the air.
