Ch. 20 Runa

Bright and early Tuesday morning and I'm sitting at the weird but awesome looking tiger statue fountain. I think this is called tiger fountain. Runa flies down and lands on the stone bench right beside me. "You know girl, we have a meeting today with the Dean to see if its okay for you to even be here." I say petting her feathers down.

 Right then an elderly aged man walks up. He has snow white hair on the top of his head and a beard a lot like Abraham Lincoln. "Well, well. What do we have here? A falcon?" He says smiling down at me.

I smile big at the friendly looking man. "Yes sir, this is Runa. She is my falcon. You can pet her if you want, she is super sweet and loves attention more then life."

The man walks over and Runa poofs her feathers at the man. He gently pets her feathers down and she preins at his attention. "What is she doing here hm?" He says still petting the brat.

"Oh, my sister lives in a town near by and I think she followed me here. She comes and goes." I say looking at her. "I actually have to meet with the Dean to see if she is allowed to even be here." I say looking back at the man and noticing he has a name tag on his suit jacket. Maybe he is a professor? I think to myself.

"Is that so? Tell me, does she eat squirrels or other rodents?" He says standing back up and looking at me.

"She hates squirrels and refuses to eat them, though she does enjoy mice and rats. Aside from that, she just eats what we feed her." I say thinking for a second. "Well she does like rabbit jerky but not raw. She is spoiled." I say laughing.

The man smiles big and pushes his glasses back on his face. "Well then I don't think you should have any problem with her being here at all. In fact, come to my office and we can probably draw something up and advise the staff that she is here." He says smoothly.

I freeze and look at him. "Wait what?" I say going wide eyed.

"Oh yes I forgot to introduce myself. Hello my name is Dr. Hawkthorn, the dean of ECU." He says smiling.

I turn bright red and look at him with even bigger eyes then before. "I-I'm s-so sorry sir! I-I erhm I didn't, I mean..." I say as I get extremely flustered and shoot up from my seat.

Dr. Hawkthorn just laughs. "Ah don't worry about it, um, what was your name?" He says smiling at me.

"I-It's L-Lucinda sir!" I say stumbling over my words again.

"Ah well nice to meet you Lucinda, please come with me to my office at Danley Hall and we can get all the paper work needed." He says as he starts walking over to Danley Hall.

I watch him for a moment and start to follow. Runa takes to the air and flies up into a tree next to Danley Hall. Geez why do I get so flustered so easy when caught off guard. I think to myself. I bet in the other realms I would have rocked that off. Ugh I am a failure in this realm.

As we continue to the building I hear Hawkthorn speak up. "She is quite a beaut you have there. Tell me where did you get her?" He asks glancing back at me.

I smile. "I have always had her. My cousin was hunting one day and found a dead falcon near a tree. He noticed that there was an egg up there and ran and got me. He was 11 at the time, I was 14 almost 15. When he came and got me, I climbed the tree and got the egg. From there I hatched and raised her with the purpose of releasing her and as you can see, the release turned into a stalker." I say as we walk up to the door of the building.

"Ah I see. I really love birds so this is actually quite an honor to see such a beautiful bird up close." He says smiling at the pain in my ass. 

"Well she loves attention. If you just say Runa she will come if she is nearby other wise you have to whistle like this." I say as I let out the Robin Hood tune. Runa, who was cleaning her feathers, leaps from the tree and comes flying right at us. I lift my bag up and she lands on it perfectly. "Though don't do either and not give her attention because she likes to get revenge." I say smiling as Dr. Hawkthorn pets her again. "You can call her anytime that you want and play or pet her. She will love you forever I'm sure." As I say this, his face brightens up even more.

"Well thank you Lucinda!" He says and Runa takes off back to the tree and we walk into the building.

We walk into a really pretty room with two computer labs on both sides and a grand stairwell in the center that goes up in two directions. Of course there was a hall in two directions as well. The stairs had a green carpet on them. Hawkthorn heads for the stairs. Between the two curving stairs is a glass wall that shows a huge sitting room. 

After a flight of evilness, I mean stairs, we make it to the second floor. The hell is with this blasted school and its stairs and hills. Ughhhhhhh I'm so outta shape. I grumble in my mind as we walk to a huge set of double glass doors. Beyond the doors is a huge freaking wooden desk a a young lady sitting there answering phone calls. To the back left is a door on the left hand wall that has a number on it. To the right is his office. We walk in and it's a rather simple but intimidating space. He has plants and paintings everywhere. How homey. I think to myself and sit when he tells me to take a seat.

After 30 minutes of paper work and talking, I look at my watch and it says 9:20. "Um I'm sorry Dr. Hawkthorn but I have a class at 9:30 in Horace Mann." I say quickly jumping up after finishing the last signature. 

"Ah alright, enjoy your class Lucinda." He says walking me out of the office and waving me off.

I quickly make my way over to Horace Mann and glance at my list of classes. Third floor Freshman Comp I with Dr. Baldwin. I think to myself as I quickly rush across campus to my class. 

Once I get there, I sit towards the front and in comes a kinda short man with a balding hair line. He walks to the front of the room with a big smile on his face. "Hello class. My name is Dr. Baldwin and before you ask, yes. I did cut my hair like this to match my last name." He says laughing, making the class start laughing. I love this class already. I think to myself as he starts to jump around the room telling everyone about himself and passing out the syllabi to the class.
